Why do we say Infinia has base 3.3% non-accelerated reward points?

The HDFC website says "5 points for every 150 spent" using the HDFC Infinia credit card. This means we get 5 points when we spend ₹150(@3.3% rate).
But this also means we get 5 points when we spend ₹299(1.6% rate).

So, isn't it misleading when someone writes Infinia has a base reward rate of 3.3%? It's very rare that the total amount will be a multiple of 150, and the rate will actually be 3.3%.

P.S: I'm assuming 1:1 redemption in the above case i.e., ₹1 for 1 point. If we consider ₹0.7/₹0.5/₹0.3 as redemption for 1 point, the reward rate dwindles further. Makes me wonder, is it even worth calling a 'super card', let alone "the super card"!

This will only be applicable in case of small spends.

But let's say you are spending 10,000 (not a multiple of 150) using Infinia. So you'll get 330 points instead of 333 points i.e. 3.3% instead of 3.33%.

Even if we take 30 transactions per month with an avg loss of Rs. 2 per tranx. You are losing max. Rs. 60 per month.

I really don't think these Rs. 60 will matter much for a person holding Infinia.

I get that for larger transactions, the difference would become minimal. But for daily spends, we're losing out a lot. For instance, I've been ordering via Swiggy regularly for 2 months now. While my average meal cost would somewhere be between ₹220-280, when the sum of spends pile up over the months, the difference becomes staggering. Similarly, when we go grocery shopping, and the total bill amount doesn't exceed ₹149/-, there are zero points.

But I completely agree that for huge transactions, Infinia is good. I guess the card is not meant for everyday use.
Actually sad that HDFC won't give any rewards for rent payment from next month!

yes,you have to have a plan

You should be careful with reward cards.

Yes: 200 below no reward points and must be multiples of 200.

Ex: 1p = 200, 1p = 399.

Axis: 200 below no reward points and must be multiples of 200.

HDFC: 150 below no reward points and must be multiples of 150.

SBI: 100/150 below no reward points and must be multiples of 100/150.

So far, I have seen only Standard Chartered and BOB gives rewards use rounding up.

TnCs clearly says for these cards. Even some cashbacks also considering below 100 no cashback and multiples of 100 only (rounding down).

Btw, it is 3.3% only for flights or hotels, else 1.7% for vouchers, 1% for cashback. Official website never mention outcome they only mention 5p/150 and reviews mention only best possible case.

Just buy Swiggy vouchers from SmartBuy, Given that it’s a regular spend category for you, it won’t matter if you add a little extra, it’ll get utilized eventually.

Also, you get bonus reward points for SmartBuy vouchers, no OTP for Swiggy money payments makes it even more convenient.
