Why no rewards for fuel transactions?

Why don't credit card issuers give points for fuel purchases? Instead, a service charge is imposed along with GST, which is sometimes reversed as a reward up to a specific maximum?

only fuel credit cards give rewards. sbi octane,citi indianoil etc

It is because fuel is still regulated with fixed dealer margins by oil companies. Ideally private fuels like Shell should have arrangement with banks and provide reward points but for that they have to charge more in the market and no one will take it due to price difference.

just because the normal credit cards do not tie up with fuel companies and they find the fuel vertical itself as an exclusive opportunity to design and market a different credit card with different level of offers and points. If you find a card which can be used across everywhere then the joining and renewal charges will also be higher to justify the same
