All depends on how much balance you can maintain in the account and any other relationship with bank...like fd or some any other investments or loan..
Upgrade to classic.
There is no harm in upgrading, and reduces many of the charges on account
Plus there are no MAB charges if you have not maintained balance (only till you're enrolled in classic)
Won't be downgraded atleast for a year even if 1L is not maintained. Before downgrade you will receive a warning for the same
Pre approved cc will depend on MAB and txns via DC

Pre approve offer only depends on your spend analysis but having classic banking helps a better card and limit.
So spend more to get pre-approved cc offer

My MAB till now is ₹2L+ and no other relationship with bank (FD, ULIP, etc) and also no plans for investments with bank as of now.

I do all Upi transactions with this account only. And other than this I do online transactions with my CCs and then pay the bill using HDFC Platinum DC. These are the only spends on this account. And sometimes cash withdrawals.

Pre approved offer aane me time lagta hai bhai. Meri family ka imperia account hai, fir bhi 6 months se jyada lag gaye pre approved millenia cc offer aane me. So there is no hard and fast rule. Mere ek junior ki wife ka normal hdfc account hai, usse apne aap hi pre approved LTF millenia cc Mila tha without maintaining any balance. She had 10,000 rupees MAB account.
Do you have any HDFC CC? if no you may be offered their basic credit cards most of the times. But if u r lucky and if u have a good TRV with them you will get pre approved offer for their mid-range cards It depends on several factors

If u want to upgrade only for pre approved cc "No need to Upgrade your account"
in all other factors the classic banking is a good product in 1L range
From my understanding having Classic account doesn't influence your credit card eligibility. Only Preferred and above does.
