Need Expert Advice: Failed SBI Unipay → HDFC Credit Card Payments

Dear Experts, I need urgent help.

On 19th Sept 2024, I made a payment of ₹60,060 through SBI Unipay portal using my SBI RuPay debit card towards my HDFC Bank credit card bill. The transaction failed but money got debited from my SBI account. Immediately I made the payment of minimum amount. Subsequently I had to meet the due date, I again tried on 21st Sept 2024 with ₹57,050 (total bill minus minimum due). That also failed, but the amount again got debited. I raised a complaint with SBI Helpdesk regarding the refund. They have acknowledged it, but as of 24th Sept 2024, no refund has been processed yet. My HDFC due date (21st Sept) has already passed, and I’m worried about late fees, interest, and credit score impact, since I don’t have enough balance left to make a fresh payment.

I need advice on:
  1. How to protect my HDFC card account from late fees/credit score hit while SBI refund is pending.
  2. How to escalate with SBI to process the refund faster (any working escalation contacts).
  3. Whether to wait or approach the RBI Ombudsman immediately.
  4. If there is any way to claim compensation from SBI for the delay in refund processing, since it has directly affected my ability to pay HDFC on time.

Any expert guidance or similar past experiences will really help 🙏

Ask your friends or family for the money and pay the bill.

Unipay doesn’t have dedicated customer support, not sure why people still chase it for a mere 0.25% reward. Looks like greed got the better of you.

Your payment failed on the 19th. Today is just the morning of the 3rd working day, and the day isn't even halfway through yet. You need to be patient. Refunds from unipay typically take 7–10 working days, and in some cases, up to 30 days. So just sit tight.

Use the "search" button and see others experiences of refund, the forum is wide open for a reason.

Forget about compensation. Focus on getting your money back. And next time, avoid making payments at the last minute, especially with reward ways.

Either pay directly, or do it on the bill generation date. That way, if anything fails, you will still have time to fix it.

suppose OP paid minimum due and 50k still outstanding after due date then how much charges and interest he has to paid after a month if interest is 3.75% . 50k + 3.75% = 51875 + 338 gst = 52213 is this right or something more amount will be paid. is late payment fees also imposed or not after minimum due payment.

Not fully sure bhai, I never faced it so not sure about charges. Maybe @desiviru knows.

Interest is charged on all amount (paid also afaik) PLUS spends in current billing cycle.

@RAHUL GOYAL

I am telling you with an example:

Your statement date is say 10th of every month so txn between 11-9 of next month are considered.

Suppose you had txn 1: Rs.5000 on 11th of Sep and Txn 2: Rs.20000 on Oct 9.

Total Bill Rs.25000.

You Paid: Rs.10000.

Balance Left: Rs.15000.

Now interest will be charged on 15000 from the statement start date even though in starting you had only Rs.5K txn. So it will be charged completely from Sep 11 till the time you make the payment for it and it will keep accumulating.

Late payment fee also come into effect.

If 3.4% is monthly then 15000*(3.4%*12= 40.8%)/365 x No. of days is delayed since start of statement + GST on interest part. Since start till due date these are 45-50 days.

So 15000*40.8%/365*50= 838.35 as interest and gst also.
