Amex has quietly nerfed MR transfers - only 6 airlines + 2 hotels left

Anyone else notice how much worse Amex Membership Rewards transfers have gotten lately?

I logged in today and realized I can’t transfer MR points to most of the usual partners anymore. The menu is basically down to just 6 airlines and 2 hotels. That’s it. No more broad partner network, no more flexibility. It feels like the whole value proposition of MR has been gutted.

Amex used to be my go-to because of the partner variety.. I could always hunt for the sweet spot for some other partners. Now it feels like I’m stuck with a skeleton crew of partners.

Between this and the rising annual fees, I’m starting to wonder: what’s the point of racking up MR anymore if the transfer flexibility is basically gone?

Which airline partners have been removed? AFAIK, they are all still there. There used to be 6 airline partners and 2 hotels partners earlier as well.

Earlier, I used to see multiple options for transferring points to different airlines and partners like LifeMiles, Air Canada, etc. But now those options don’t show up. Am I missing something? I also came across some older archived links online, but when I click them, Amex says the transfer page doesn’t exist anymore.

I don't think Amex India supported transfers to Life Miles and Air Canada. Are you talking about Amex US cards?

I had a Platinum (metal) earlier and I was able to see all the options. Now I have P.Reserver which has limited options. My friend in US has multiple options.

I guess there is no need to create a panic here, it's same always. It was only 6 + 2 earlier for most of us or all of us AFAIK.

@csawai Can you confirm what went missing for you and what you had in the past?? People are worried. Even I am having Plat Charge, Charge and transfers remain same.

I am sorry if I am causing any sort of panic. Check out the screenshot. When I had the metal card, I would randomly visit these links when logged in to see how much the transfer ratio would be.

I have mailed their support team if this is just for India and differs countrywise. Will keep you updated.

Thanks

Is this metal card you are referring is India's or US or other national card?

The screenshot you shared appears to be from a US Amex card. It’s possible you were shown this screen by mistake, there may have been a temporary glitch, or perhaps you were inadvertently logged into the Amex US portal. However, in India, those partners were not listed earlier either, so they should not be appearing as part of the Indian Amex program.
