Fraudulent Legal Notice Sent on Behalf of Axis Bank – Criminal Impersonation, Mental Harassment & Violation of RBI Recovery Guidelines

Respected Sir/Madam,

I, Mr. Asha Kanta Sharma, am in receipt of a so-called “Legal Notice” sent to me via email on 29th September 2025from the following email address: Info@ks-legal.in
This email purports to represent KS Legal & Associates, claiming to act on behalf of Axis Bank Ltd. by Axis Bank Employee Saptarshi Das at 9007661472 and saptarshi1.das@axisbank.com in relation to certain alleged dues on my credit card. Upon careful examination, I have come to the conclusion that this email and the associated contents are fraudulent, criminal in nature, and constitute a deliberate attempt at intimidation, impersonation, and harassment.

Key Points of Allegation:

  1. Impersonation of a Reputed Law Firm:
    • The email domain used is info@ks-legal.in, which is a clear impersonation of the legitimate domain of KS Legal & Associates: https://www.kslegal.co.in.
    • The address, logos, and names (including "Adv. SK Tyagi") have been falsely used to lend authenticity to a fake legal document.
    • Section 419 – Punishment for cheating by personation
    • Section 468 – Forgery for the purpose of cheating
    • Section 471 – Using as genuine a forged document
    • Section 503 – Criminal intimidation
    • Section 506 – Punishment for criminal intimidation
    • Section 507 – Criminal intimidation by anonymous communication
    • Section 420 – Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property
    • Under the Information Technology Act, 2000:
    • Section 66D – Impersonation using computer resources
    • Section 66C – Identity theft
    • Section 72 – Breach of confidentiality and privacy
  2. Mental Harassment and Defamation:
The fake notice, sent using deceitful methods and intended to instill fear, has caused me emotional distress and mental harassment, which is a violation of my right to dignity and mental peace under Article 21 of the Constitution of India.

My Legal Demands:

  1. Immediate Written Clarificationfrom Axis Bank stating:
    • Whether you have authorized this communication
    • If yes, provide the name of the law firm and authorization letter
    • If no, investigate and disclose who authorized this fraudulent communication
  2. Immediate Withdrawal of the Fraudulent Notice and an official apology in writing for the mental harassmentcaused.
  3. Internal Inquiry into the use of fake legal firms for recovery and initiation of legal action against the responsible parties, including the third-party recovery agents or vendors.
  4. Compensation for Harassment:
I reserve the right to initiate proceedings under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and/or appropriate civil and criminal laws for compensation, punitive damages, and legal costs arising from this incident.

Notice of Legal Action:

If you fail to respond within 7 (seven) days from receipt of this notice, I will be compelled to:

  • File a formal FIR with the Cyber Crime Cell
  • Approach the Banking Ombudsman / RBI
  • File a complaint with the Bar Council of India
  • Initiate appropriate civil and criminal proceedings in a court of competent jurisdiction
This notice is being sent without prejudice to all my rights and remedies available under law, which are hereby expressly reserved.

This reply is largely irrelevant to matter of notice. Whether you have such credit card with Axis or not? And any dues? Reply just says content of notice are fraudulent etc without any specifics of how and why you call it that. You haven't either shared context of this notice. Without that don't understand what is your intent of sharing it here

Let me break it down for you.
1. A company can own multiple domains. My company has about 7-8 domains we use rotationaly and for various purposes... I myself use 3 separate domains. It is completely okay if you received an email from a different domain...
2. The PDF has clearly mentioned to reach out to the Person of Contact of Axis Bank... If you have the doubt of genuinity, then you can reach out to that contact on their official axis bank email.
3. If still you have doubts, just mail the official email of KS Legal and ask about genuinity of this pdf. If they say it's fake, then go ahead and file a complaint at CCIC.
4. You are all basing it off in air, instead of spending so much time and energy into it. You really should redirect it to figuring our your next steps.

I am going on a limb and assuming that this CC due is legit because if it was otherwise you would mention it in screaming letters or something along those lines, but since there is no mention that either the CC account doesn't exist, or the account is all cleared off. I am assuming that this CC bill due situation is legit.

What's going to happen next is bank will try to pressurize you, since they don't have a collateral, they will have to eventually mark as NPA and then sell this loan off to other vendoes who will then start to pursuade you and pressure you to pay... You need to think what your strategy here will be, do you want to just let it go and harm your CIBIL and your future for any kind of loan for the next 7 years or do you want to talk to the bank and come with an arrangement where you can pay the Principal only and get it all sorted out.

My assumption here is that if the situation has reached to this level, it has been about 3-4 months at least, So, I am assuming the original bill was about 40K which has compounded into this, so you might want to talk to the bank and figure out a way instead of channeling your energy here...

1. Use of multiple domains for any company will reduce trust and confidence of the users and should not be normalised, it increases the chances of cyber crimes / phishing scam, any company should not at all use 2 or more domains for any purpose as it is breaking the foundamental trust the internet is based on.
2. It uses the exact logo, names, address etc for a actual law firm without using emails domains of them, that is a big issues for me or anyone.
3. Yes, it will do so, most probably they must be in some kind of mutual understanding here.
4. I have paid all the dues to the tune of nearly 2 Lacs and then realised the recent notice is fake and even all previous 2 notices were fake too

1. `Use of multiple domains for any company will reduce trust and confidence of the users and should not be normalised`
That is your understanding of trust... Businesses use multiple domains to Protect their brand... If I run a business, I do not want somebody else register a domain with a similar name and use it. So, I myself will buy that domain... Sometimes I might want to use it to have high Email Deliverability or sometimes not... Choice of the business.

2. `It uses the exact logo, names, address etc for a actual law firm`
Why are we negating that it probably might be a real notice... (Impersonating a law firm out of all entities is literally the stupidest thing one can imagine).

3. `they must be in some kind of mutual understanding here`
That my friend, is called a business deal. That has happened between Axis and KS Legal entity. Even if this email was originating from Axis Bank's side. It would still be valid... I myself have clients with whom I have deals to send emails on their behalf.. That's a Power of Attorney which is used by big businesses to optimize their flows.

4. `then realised the recent notice is fake`
Please explain your definition of fake... The case was genuine, your card due was genuine, the PII mentioned in the email and notice were genuine, account numbers were genuine... Despite all this, you believe it is fake, please explain how?

5. Here, for your satisfaction, I will only confirm it. If they say this is not their domain, sure, go ahead and file a complaint with CCIC. Otherwise, please think about how you want to channelize your energy.

I am more thinking in terms of a layman from street as to how they can determine the trust, business can use difference domain's version internally but when they commnicate with end user it has to be from the orignal domain only, this should be a global level practice regardless of what you do internally to protect you business. For me or any person on the street if a person x has a key of person y then i will think person x a thief not any authorised signatory or POA holder of Y because i will not be able to determine the truth myself. Any xyz person will come back to us saying we are form ABC right ? there will be chose and mistrust all over the internet , right? Do you want this ? Can we have a open debate, a gloabl / national level debate ? Count me IN, if the answer is YES. This is the most unbiased plain view.

- Yes, agree thats why i wrote that there must be an understanding between them. Now a days we can not trust if everything seems real in terms of documatations, e.g, Digital Arrest Scam ? Right ?

- Please see my answer for the 1st pointer. Fully disagree with run any business like this. Please list out why we should have from your side. I will list out double the pointers as to why we should not have any at customer level. Go ahead 🙂

- Yes, even if everyhting data seems ok that does not means it is real, I might have your house or car key does it makes me the real owner ? Digital Scammers have mostly all your details, right ? Axis Bank is simplity create the legal notices themselves saving the legal fees so as to create a pressure for dues payments, these are not valid notices even though it has all correct details, you can buy all the data right ? Dark Web ? right ?

5. Here, for your satisfaction, I will only confirm it. If they say this is not their domain, sure, go ahead and file a complaint with CCIC. Otherwise, please think about how you want to channelize your energy.

- I have already filed a case with Banking Ombudsment and waiting now. Wish me luck 🙂

So, TL;DR; your point is that the mail should have been sent through an official email address, the one listed on Google...

Sure, go ahead as you have already filed a case with RBIO, KS Legal and Axis will say this is their official domain.
Secondly, AFAIK, I might be wrong, but you need to follow an escalation matrix (generally in any business). So, before raising a complaint, did you check with anyone from Axis?

However, please do share the responses you get.

RemindMe! 30 days
