Need help with communication address update

I had an NRE account with Axis Bank, which I used from 2015 to 2017. After returning to India, I submitted a written application to close the account in October 2017. I even tried to log in again in January 2018 but was unable to do so, so I assumed the account had been closed.

However, recently when I applied for an Axis Bank credit card and logged in through the app, I noticed that the NRE account was still inactive but not closed, and it showed a charge of ₹300. I raised a ticket to close the account, but it was in vain—they asked me to visit the branch, which is not possible since I no longer live in that city. I ignored it at that time, but now I want to update my communication address for my Axis Bank credit card. Unfortunately, I’m unable to do so because the dormant NRE account is causing the following error:

Error message:

Account Frozen
Please unfreeze your account before placing a new update request.
ADD_100
Please visit any Axis Bank branch or call Axis Bank Customer Care.

I have already reached out to customer care, and they asked me to update the address through the app. Is there any other way to update the address for my credit card? I want to apply for the Axis Airtel credit card.

Looks like ur NRE account was never closed. U assumed it to be closed because u couldnt login. That NRE account went dormant because of lack of use. So now Axis's system still sees u as an NRI. U need to first reactivate the NRE account and change it to normal resident savings account by giving proof of ur current Indian address/work. I doubt if this can be done online. Better to spare a day or 2 and go to the branch to sort out. Most other works can be done online through email but activating dormant account still requires physical branch visit, preferably to home branch.

+1, if you no longer required any Axis account , better is to close first, then apply for CC.
If you have branch near to your home or work location. Most probably it will help you to close your existing dormant nre account
As you can see, in screenshot , it says, if you attach hundred rupees then it will allow to close account without further fuzz.

They wanted me to visit the home branch with my ATM card, cheque book, and all other documents. I told them I don’t have any of them because I had submitted the closure request in 2018. After a lot of back-and-forth calls with customer care, they mailed me the closure form, asked me to sign it, and courier it to the home branch. They waived the charges since it was their mistake in the first place.
