If someone is doing international travel for the first time (irrespective of reason, work/leisure/study, etc). What travel advice would you experienced folks give here?

Always keep some cash (preferably US$) with you. Keep it safe for emergency use. You never know when your card might stop working. There may be sudden RBI moratorium which might stuck you abroad, without any fault of yours. Keep cards from different networks and different banks too.

1. Water is not free in a lot of countries. Carry your own bottle (buy from supermarket) when visiting a restaurant.
2. Always pay in local currency (vs rupees) when POS machine gives that option
3. Carry some spicy snacks with you as you WILL crave spicy food even if you don't eat it here!
4. 99% times buying local sim is cheaper than activating international pack on your Indian number

If it’s Europe be ready to face racism.

Paying travellers aren’t as welcome as free loading immigrants.

Don’t pro-offer to take pictures if you find westerners with cute kids or even otherwise.
Your intention is suspect.

Your skin color is more visible than your kindness.

Discrimination applies even when you hold top tier hotel status.

Based on
Greece travels - 2013 (Picture offer at Acropolis)
Scotland - 2015 (Isle of Skye tour - Food wasn't allowed on mini van - someone ate...only we indians were questioned...wasnt us who ate)
Austria travels - 2017 (Museum cafe - sole waiter wouldn't attend to us for a good 15 mins - while attending to other whites who came in much later than us).
Austria travels - 2022 (Andaz front desk experience).
