Axis Ace Unwrapping

My association with Axis started with Axis Neo card way back in 2017. This was my first card with them and came as a pre-approved card without a need of any documents or verification.

Then came the Flipkart Axis card in 2019, it used to be one of the best cards of it's time (still is in Flipkart world). I used this card for almost 4 years, tried my level best to convert it to LTF but Axis didn't budge. They only added salt to my wounds when they offered this card as LTF to new customers last year. Again efforts for converting this card to LTF went in vain. Finally I decided that this card has to go and made up my mind to cancel it just before when the annual fee is due.

What card: Then came the question which Axis card should I apply next? In the list of pre-approved cards, I had an option to apply for Magnus, Privilege, Atlas, and Ace. Magnus offered many perks but the joining and annual fee of 10,000 +GST was biggest deterrent for me. Also, spending of 1,00,000 per month was a hit or miss, I could have easily manufactured the 1L spend every month (wallet loads, rent payment etc.). However, I didn't want to waste my energies in doing so.

Ace: Though I am bit late to the Ace party and this card has already devalued a lot. Nevertheless, I still applied for it as it is only cards which offers 5% cashback on utility bill payments via GPay (Android) and 2% unlimited cashback on offline transactions (except fuel, jewellery, cash advances and EMI). Finally chose Axis Ace, as I usually spend more than 10K on utility bills per month and Ace can really come in handy for those bills.

Unwrapping: Packaging of this card is nothing to talk home about as it's just an envelope wrapped in plastic. Axis should have put more though in designing decent packing for this card.

Congratulations!! Did you get any offer banner on Gpay ?

This was a pre-approved offer from Axis within the Axis Banking app.
my guess is instead if u had applied another 2 other cards offline, the pre-approved offer would still exist and u would be able to get 4th axis card using the pre-approved offer. not sure.

Didn't the bank tried to convince you not to close the card?

They did, however I told them that my application for ACE was already approved and it was not making sense for me to continue with 2 cash back cards. Also, told them that I would like to leave once spot open for Magnus in future. They ultimately agreed and closed the card.
Instead you should have asked them to convert Neo to LTF as it was your first credit card.

I strongly believe not to close the oldest credit card to have that credit age

NEO is LTF from the beginning. It is the oldest card and will remain active for the years to come. Opted to close Flipkart due to two reasons.
1. Flipkart was offered to new customers as LTF last year whereas they still denied LTF status to their existing customers. This differentiation irked me a lot.
2. After the launch of SBI Cashback card it doesn't make sense to keep a card which delivers 5% cashback on a specific website.

Miss understood as Neo to be chargeable

Exact journey for me too with Axis, Flipkart is paid and pain to see everyone holding it is a LTF. Contacted several times to customer care and told them I'm not that rich to pay annual fee on a card where others with similar or low profile getting it is a LTF. After multiple follow-ups (nearly 3 months with PNO) they said they will swap with 'My Zone' and provide it as LTF.

I sent again, by showing charges of both cards and how 'my zone' is only worth for 20K/year spends for me whereas in Flipkart previously few years I made more than 2L etc. and asked instead of offering 500rs. 'myzone' as LTF, offer me same fee Flipkart card as LTF.

Discussions still going on, to worse my effort they're now offering 'myzone' as LTF to everyone.

Now, have to decide, to which card that flip should happen from 'Flipkart' (because they won't agree to make it as LTF).
I would recommend flipping Flipkart with My Zone LTF and apply for SBI Cashback card. SBI cashback will give you 5% flat on most of the online transaction and it is FYF. As you mentioned you managed to do more than 2L worth of spends on Flipkart, the same amount of spends would easily recover the cost of annual fee from second year onwards on the SBI cashback card.

Moral of the story.... Always wait for Flipkart ltf offers.... They come mostly twice in a year....

I am holding Flipkart since the day when it was first launched, that time they offered Flipkart gift vouchers of worth 1000 Rs as a part of the welcome benefits. Used this card to the brim and managed to earn cashback of more than 5,538 Rs. in the entire duration of the possession of this card. I would have kept this card for long had they not offered it to new joiners as LTF.
