Infinia add-on query

Have been scouring the forum since ages and keeping myself upto date on the latest in the cc world. Thank you to everyone for that!

Have a query now - I vave an HDFC Infinia card with an add-on for my wife. The add-on card number is the same as mine. Read somewhere that I can use gyftr on two different accounts with different phone numbers and buy Apay vouchers worth INR 20k for the same card number (own plus add-on). Tried the same and it worked in this month!

However, read conflicting views on whether this could have any impact on my card from HDFC point of view. Can someone please clarify if they have personal experience of buying more than 10k APay vouchers on different guftr accounts with different phone numbers but the same Infinia card number (base plus add-on). Thanks in advance!
 
Did u apply ur addon card before 2020 cos I think so the card number is same. I m not sure what are the sequences if same card is used in two accounts.

Better is to close n get new add on such that card number will be different n use that in another account with no issues

No, this was in early 2024 only. Got the add-on card for the wife with the same number as my card.
 
Call customer care to close add on card. Once it’s closed, apply fresh one from net banking. You will get a new add on with different number.

Don’t use same card in multiple GyFTR accounts. Heard that HDFC has blocked the cards.
 
So, i just called the customer care and asked them to close the add-on card.

They say that since the add-on card is issued with the same number as the primary card, they cannot do this. Any action on add-on card will need to be done on the primary card first. So, they will need to close the primary card and only then will the add-on card be closed with that. Anyone else had this issue while trying for closure of add-on card with the same number as the primary card?

Not true. I too had Addons with same number. I only closed the add ons and got new addons with different numbers.

Try again. I closed my add-on with same number last month.

No, this was in early 2024 only. Got the add-on card for the wife with the same number as my card.
I got my Infinia few days ago (14th Feb 2025). Primary and Add On have the same numbers.
 
Seems different cos when I requested in 2024 both had different numbers. I had done via online n did u do via online or offline
 
Not true. I too had Addons with same number. I only closed the add ons and got new addons with different numbers.

Try again. I closed my add-on with same number last month.
I contacted HDFC today with the issue I am facing with the same number on the primary and add on card as well as the OTP coming to my number for my wife's transactions.
Now for some HDFC logic:
- Me: When my wife makes an online purchase the OTP comes to me. Can you link her card to her mobile number.
- HDFC: No. Card numbers are the same so it cannot be done.
- Me: OK. Issue a new add on card with a different number.
- HDFC: Cannot be done as yours is an upgrade from an old card.
- Me: But HDFC has done it for other customers.
- HDFC: It cannot be done for NRI customers.
- Me: Why?
- HDFC: Because of security. You should know when your card is being used.
- Me: And why is security not important for resident customers? Don't they need to know when their card is being used.
- HDFC: Sir it is for NRI customers.
- Me: OK. So I may be on a flight or in the middle of the sea with no mobile connection. I cannot receive the OTP and send it to my wife. This problem is not there for resident customers. They can WhatsApp or SMS the OTP to the add on card holder or make the online purchase themselves.
- HDFC: Sir it is for security.

They have standard answers which make no sense. A cat or a dog will be able to understand this but not a HDFC Credit Card Manager (Or any manager for that matter).

Sometimes they carry guideline 1 with them in the office, so, no other answers, out of the book, that day. 📚
