So you saying even Customer care couldn't make booking using your CV points for your wife? Did you ask CC about reason? PS: Even vouchers can be transferred

Correct and the reason is that I had not yet completed my 2 full cash flights in my name with two different PNR.
Now I have completed them and I can book for my wife with points

The person holding The Air India account with points credited from any credit card has to book two separate full cash revenue one way flights with different PNR for himself and no one else.

He has to actually fly and after completing the flights 5 days later points will get credited for cash revenue flights
after that the account get auto activated for booking friends and family

No, two full cash one way flights (2 different PNR) for yourself only, and paid directly to Air India via website or app. (Not through agents)

Also, you have to be on those 2 flights, you cannot be a no show.
Buy 2 one way tickets, not one return ticket.

Five working days after the second flight you will get some points because you have paid full cash.

After that your existing points will automatically get activated for booking friends and family air tickets

I travelled a fair bit on Air India but rarely ever made a direct booking with them. Always went through third party apps owing to the discounts they often provided. And I was able to redeem points both for myself and my family too. Rules may have changed since.

But I'd suggest you try this: go to Air India website and claim points retrospectively for the booking you made on the 3rd party site. You will get points immediately (if the booking was for youself and within a certain period).

Then try the redemption. It might work if you are lucky.

Something might have changed. I had booked only one return revenue flight (on single PNR) from the app. All my previous AI bookings were through OTAs. Still I was able to utilize points to book award flight for family. I wasn't expecting the booking to go through as you said, but it did. This was yesterday.
