Axis Atlas 1.18% fee for Education MCC code

From 20 December 2024, we have to pay 1.18% fee for education MCC codes, along with Rs. 235 for transferring points or miles to partners.

Has anyone been charged this 1.18% fee for education spends?

My two cents: They should, now suppose even if they not, they will charge someday. Even after card closure.

While doing a direct edu payment I only see the exact fee amount. No additional charge.
Will this charge be deducted later?

Axis Bank is supposed to charge 1.18% in the statement.
This is expected but not confirmed by anyone till date

It is there only on paper but I don't think anyone has been charged yet

Mostly they won’t as long as we use direct in universities website
Reward of 4% if they charge 1.18% then its not worthy right

I think that is for 3rd party sites not for institute physical pos.

I have not been charged.

Charges are only there when you use 3rd party platforms. Paying on school website does not attract any charges

Have done many payments on university website. Got edge miles and haven't been charged any fee.

The T&C mentioned that fee will be charged on payments done through 3rd party apps and not on payments done directly through institutional websites or POS machines

Which one will make more sense for about 4 lakh education payment? Hdfc infinia or Axis Atlas? Axis Atlas points will be redeemed mostly on club itc or marriott. Not to Accor.

I had Atlas till last week
I usually paid my son's education fees on the school app...ranging from 6400 to 20000

There I was always charged 1.12% by default from last July 2024 (dint try before that so don't know)

So school fees plus additional 1.12% was the amount I was paying thru app directly. Nothing came in my statement.

Atlas gave me 4% Air miles..

Closed recently anyways...

Now using Infinia with 3.3%
Infinia FYI also charging same 1.12%

Yes Axis provides edge miles on education payments via any mode direct school or third party, i have done payment for education fee via third party in Jan25 and I got my edge miles for the same.

Well it also gives points for Payments done on 3rd Party Apps, but also charges 1.18% Fee.

It should be payment gateway charges not Axis for direct payment. I pay direct fees and can see upfront charges for Credit card - higher for Amex/ DCB but no charges later by bank on HDFC cards or Atlas either.

For Direct Payment through school or college website there will not be any fee levied, but through 3rd Party Apps like mobikwik, Cred or Paytm, there is a charge of 1% + GST in Axis as well as hdfc also. Kindly check latest changes into Axis Atlas or HDFC cards.

What you are referring to is the payment gateway fees charged by your school payment gateway.... It is not charged by the card issuing banks

Axis isn’t even charging 236 for each miles transfer even though as per 20th Dec Deva pdf, they should. I am still transferring points in batches of 3-4k instead of transferring them after each accumalation like before.

We cant trust axshit as they might charge for all yearly transfers sudden after 6months!
