don't be like my dad, for the second time in a row he paid Amex Gold fees even though i told him cancel the amex gold card, his gold card turned 11yr so for the first 8-9 years he didn't pay a dime.. very hard to swallow this though i would cancel my own amex platinum now matter what next yr and get the same cc in 3-6m cause of referral program lol.
