5 credit cards challenge

If you could only have 5 credit cards with you and no more - which would be your 5 credit cards? Would be great if you could also mention the reasons. Of course these will be based on your personal usage, preferences, spends etc., but would be fun to know. Idea is to see if we can create a holistic portfolio of credit cards in a way that they cover all aspects of our spends and lifestyle, thus each card complementing the other 4. What are those 5 cards as of today (as the combination may keep changing with new cards coming up, devaluation in existing cards etc.).
I am so looking forward to hear from members here. Would especially be fun to hear from those who have numerous credit cards and to see how they manage to narrow it down to 5 😛 .

My current cards:
1. HDFC Regalia - Used for everything except fuel (use sbi IndianOil debit card), wallet load. Aspiring for that elusive Infinia upgrade.
2. Amex Gold Charge - For reward multiplier, wallet load and risky sites. And for that extra bling in the look😉
Closed below within 2 months of receiving:
Magnus - in my opinion too many calculations, rules and too much to track.
Indus Legend LTF - low reward rate, unresponsive customer care.
RBL Shoprite - Don't know why I applied for this.
Smartearn - closed after receiving Gold charge.
Used to hold around 5-6 cards. But I travel very rarely and don't book star hotels too, so simplified the portfolio for peace of mind.
IndusInd Legend has better reward rate than Regalia on weekends, also for cash redemption it is better than Regalia everyday.

Yes, I agree. But in my case, most of the expenses can't wait for weekends. So decided to settle for straightforward rewards than adding additional planning & calculations. It seems like as my age increases, I'm leaning more towards simple & hasselfree options than maximising the returns.

Edit: And I can't stand all the nuisance caused by IndusInd people continuously calling/messaging me multiple times a day to just convert each and every spend I make.

Interesting thread. Here I go ..
1. Infinia - Amazon/Flipkart ( smart buy vouchers), high offline spends, travel and stays
2. NEU Infinity - Upi spends
3. SBI BPCL Octane- Fuel
4. Magnus - Incase monthly spends are going to be more than 1 lac
5. Amex gold - wallet spends if any.

this should cover everything🙂

I currently hold few cards; some premium, some super premium - DCB, Zenith, First Select, Ace, Cashback, APay and have applied for sapphiro

But am yet to come across a use case (except movies) that other cards do better than DCB.

I feel it's still a good card even after the buttload of devaluation as long as you're not hitting the daily cap on RPs. So my pick would be just DCB 😛

Edit - Definitely want to add infinity to list for UPI spends but HDFC is offering only FYF whereas I am looking for LTF

Why did you use Tata Neu League Offer to convert / get Tata Neu UPI Card as LTF?

Must have for me:

SBI Cashback (online spends)
Indusind Eazydiner (Dining, shopping and entertainment spends, mostly offline)
Tata Neu Infinity (UPI spends and also the well known but secret spends)

Kinda replaceable for me:
(Any two of them could take the remaining spots depending on situation and spends)

HDFC Millennia (backup of CB card but it may not be needed)
Axis Ace (Don't have but could fit in if my offline spend increases in the categories where Indus ED woudn't give 2% rewards)
Axis Airtel (If I take more Airtel connections)
SBI BPCL (For SBI offers and as fuel card)
ICICI Platinum/Any LTF ICICI card (ICICI offers)
Axis IOCL (IOCL petrol pump is closer)

BPCL and any ICICI LTF card might get picked for the remaining 2 spots but one Axis card would be there to be an impact player i.e. the 6th one to avail any Axis offer. IOCL might be my pick among all Axis cards as I already have it as LTF and IOCL pump is currently near.

Agreed. They have started troubling with calls for the last couple of years otherwise I always loved IndusInd for low interest on EMIs earlier. InduInd cards were one of the better cards in these market. They seem to lost the plot somewhere.

My 5 are:
1. SBI Cashback.
2. Amazon Pay.
3. HDFC Infinia.
4. Axis Magnus.
5. PNB Rupay Select.
All above i have, if any card in future i would ike to add, it would be
1. Axis ACE, for 2% offline spents
2. BOB Eterna, for cashback even on wallet reload
3. HDFC IRCTC for rail ticket.

I prefer cash backs over rewards

SBI Cashback for online shopping
ICICI Amazon Pay for large Amazon purchases (No cost EMI)
Axis Ace for offline purchase and utility payments
SBI Vistara Prime for large offline purchases
Amex MRCC (optional) for Amazon GVs and utility payments

These would be my fab 5:

1. Axis Airtel - Obviously for the insane cashback on Airtel bills and food/grocery.

2. SC Smart - 2% on online. All rounder card which also fetches cashback for insurance, NPS, tax and rent.

3. HSBC Visa Platinum - Would keep this card for purely BMS BOGO offer. (Since no other cards in this list would offer that)

4. Tata Neu Infinity - For UPI and Tata Neu spends.

5. ICICI Amazon Pay - For everything Amazon and Amazon pay misc bills.

1. Axis Magnus hereafter Vistara Infinite.
2. Amex PTCC
3. SBI Cashback
4. Standard Chartered Ultimate
5. HDFC Tata Neu.

I have to try for DCB. In that case, Vistara Infinite will be replaced on the list.

Amex Gold: For purchasing GCs for Amazon, NPS payments occasionally, fuel, wallet loads

Amex Platinum Travel: For hotel spends and occasional GC purchases, wallet loads

SBI Vistara Prime: Offline spends, NPS payments, fuel

HDFC DCB: Unlimited lounge access, online spends on Flipkart

Tata Neu Infinity: For UPI on CC
Is SBI Vistara Prime better than Axis Ace and SC Ultimate for offline spends?
