As I had 7 Credit cards, 5 bank accounts and a passion to maximise my rewards, it became increasingly difficult to track my spends whether it’s via UPI, cash or CCs.
So, I was on the market looking for a good financial tracker, but the issue with most of em is that they need some sort of a subscription, or that we need to do multiple things & input in multiple places within the app which makes it a bit of a time consuming process ( for example, you may need to select multiple options like your mode of payment, type of payment, etc.)
That’s when I remembered, ayoooo,I have Chatgpt now.
Now, with ChatGPT go, we likely have 8k token limit, which is very difficult to express in terms of memory bandwidth that the app remembers based on the inputs from a previous number of days, so this is still an experiment, but I have been tracking there for the past week now and the results have been promising.
The main benefit for me is that I can use the “chat/voice” or whatever that button is called to just say stuffs into it and it arranges the finances accordingly, for example: “₹853 spent to buy mosquito net from amazon via it’s CC” and it can arrange these accordingly.
The thing with this is that you can probably customise it even more if you provide it even more financial data like your CC limits, due dates, reward rates, so it can also arrange your finances accordingly, but it may lose it’s memory tokens pretty quickly, plus I’m not comfortable sharing everything with an AI. There’s probably a much better way to integrate AI to track finances out there using a proxy email address to redirect transaction mails from your primary email address to then be able to share them to an AI and automate the process much more easily, but for now this process looks like the easiest as we already probably use ChatGPT anyways.
“
Now, one of the two downsides is what happens when I lose the memory bandwidth/ tokens and the AI forgets the previous history? The probably only solution I could find is to export all of the data in a tabular form( as in the screenshots) every few days with another line of instructions “State in details the ways you are classifying my finances into categories based on my initial and updated instructions “, so that I can start a new chat again with these screenshots or the tabular datas as the initial instructions again.
The other downside is that we need to input our financial data into that specific chat, for the memory bandwidth to remember our previous data.
The forum is open for discussion, looking for ways to improve the system!
(Definitely not edited with AI, so spelling and grammatical mistakes are regretted)
