Amex Plat Travel - No Retention Benefits Offered - July 2025

My Platnium Travel card has come up for renewal and accordingly Amex has charged the annual fee in tbr latest statement.

For the longest time I've seen people talk about the different kinds of offers they received when they called up Amex and ask for waiver.

So I called them up today and asked if they could give me an offer too. Do note I have Platinum and Gold charge cards besides the Travel card.

They flatly, although politely, refused to give me any offer. They say that such an offer is not available for my profile. I really do not want to pay the full fee, even though it's a very beneficial card, having just doled out almost 78k a few months ago for the charge card.

Has anybody else faced this? Were you able to talk with them and get them change their decision and give you an offer?

Would appreciate any inputs.

Does this mean if we have PT and MRCC....if we close PT then the points which we got coz of using PT will get forfeited within 30 days?

No, it looks like no one got any retention benefits since July. I got denied any benefits for my Gold Charge card renewed this month.

Same here, they didn't give any retention offer, and I had to renew my Gold Charge at full annual fee. Amex has changed.

I did not get any retention benefits in July 2025 for my Platinum Travel card. As card was not being used since milestone of 4 L was achieved long back, I had closed the card. Now I thought of again reinstating the closed card. Surprisingly Amex reinstated the closed card week this week with same limit after my request and one declaration over mail. They charged the annual fees on proportionate basis from October to July 2026. It was seamless. Just sharing here for knowledge of others.

I closed some of my other cards which were lying idle and have some big insurance payments incoming. So thought of utilising it for this year to get the Mariott points and then decide subsequently.

Did you lose your points relevant to spends on PT when you closed the card?

Around 1k points got lapsed . The validity of points is 30 days after closure. Bulk of the points were already redeemed long back.
