I have the same question now...
I wish to have either Marriot platinum or Accor platinum
Which one will be easier to get and maintain

If you are staying budget hotels and want to use points then according is easier to maintain.
If you are premium revenue guest mostly then Marriott is better. Marriott also gives option for life time platinum elite. Also sometimes you can request cc to get you some platinum challenge

How to participate in the platinum challenge and what is actually all about

For accor, you have to take membership A+, for 20 nights and rest through nights or platinum through status points.
Or you can take ALL plus ibis and ALL plus voyager for combined 30 nights and rest through stays
or take ALL signature absolute for 12000 status point plus 75k accor points per year. Rest you will have to generate through revenue nights
In Marriott convoy, you may request the customer care for Marriott bombay status challenge for gold or platinum elite status. If approved then within 90 days you are expected to complete a certain number of revenue stays with them say 10 stays for gold elite or 20 stays for platinum elite. They may or ay not offer this challenge to you
