Ah. When I did it I was a new customer. AU operates weirdly. Instead of it being easier for existing customers to get other products of theirs, it gets more difficult. I had the same issue when trying to open a savings with them after Zenith. Weird bank.
You should not have faced issues to open savings account. That's weird. But for CC some banks have this one card per customer policy which creates a lot of difficulty.

You normally can open savings acc online with AU but if you are an existing customer then it says to get in touch with a branch and do it offline. Weird policy.

That's not weird. though it appears if we don't know the reason.

Anyone can open online account in any bank only if one is NEW to bank without any kind of existing/old relationship with that bank.

In case one has any kind of association with a bank then account opening can't be done through online mode. One has to get it done from Branch only.

SBI didn't allow me open online account since I have a relationship with SBI (it was not even saving account ).

Many of members here must be aware of this Policy by banks.

I understand it is the policy but what is the reasoning behind it? Why can I open only my first product online but second one has to be opened physically? Why can I open the same product online if I am NTB?

That is not true. I am an IndusInd bank CC customer for over 5 years but opened online exclusive savings account after over 5 years of relationship with the bank.

Good to know you could avail online services.

Two things:

1.
I didn't mention ,Nor I am sure of, that customers with credit card (only) relationship with a bank can not open online account.

May be (I am not sure) only credit card relationship doesn't count for preventing people opening online accounts.

2.
As far as that policy (in practice) is concerned, that is in public domain for most of us to check with any Good banking resources (online).

Though everyone will be happy if they allow online account opening without any general exception.

you did mention - "any kind of existing/old relationship with that bank"

The purpose of this forum is to guide people in the right direction. So if you are unaware of something it is better not to comment.

While I understand the "purpose" that is why I said that "The Policy" in practice is in "Public domain".

The person whom I first responded to acknowledged to be "aware" of this Policy "in practice".

There are sufficient online resources where this policy is mentioned.

I can try to share screenshot of SBI preventing me for this very reason (SBI was my own reference I mentioned in my original post).

I do agree with the idea to not comment unless one is "Reasonably Sure" of something. I practice this.

I "usually" am careful to "choose" my words while writing. I "purposely" used "Reasonably" in last paragraph because most of members here do not have access to internal notifications/communications of most financial institutions.

They "still" share based on whatever they have observed and understood to be "prevalent" with practices of financial institutions.

If People strictly Go by commenting only if they can come up with a Rule/notification to share then this platform will be devoid of activity level.

Having said this, I agree with your sentiment. I myself have exited one thread only yesterday Where people were endlessly discussing between Amazon/Flipkart and their quality or lack of quality as per their respective individual experiences. That was just "Noise" with no Logical end in sight (as it seemed to me personally).

The second reason I exited that thread was somewhat related to this thread and specifically the way you Chose to comment to my Post. There (in that thread) too people were exchanging at a personal level leaving aside courtesy of public forum and here too I didn't find your "tone" to be in "Good Taste".

That is why I Opted to write this.. which took my time and energy unnecessarily and would probably take others' too whoever is going to read this.

I will not answer to you for this very thing/subject in this thread to help save everyone's energy.

I stay open to engage in another thread some other time 🙂 provided the tone stays in Good taste.

Have a Good day. 😊
