My main question was whether there is a way to close the card now and have the renewal fee reversed—meaning if any request can be made for the same. Nowhere did I say that I am complaining to the PNO or approaching the RBI for a refund as a right.
P.S. Comparing a CC with Netflix🃏🃏, Banks offer certain services to retain customers, Netflix does not refund charges as a retention strategy.
So basically you want to close the card without paying outstanding (which includes fees only I guess).
Idk abt axis, but in SBI there is a way, same might apply to axis.
So in SBI, my brother had fees as outstanding. I on behalf on my brother told SBI I don't want to pay these fees and close the card, they said No. They I told them I want this fee reversed, they said no. But they said I can downgrade the card if these fees is too much for me. Amount was 2999+GST. I said if I downgrade, will the fees be reversed, they said Yes. So I went ahead and downgraded the card to simplysave, it had 500 rs fee for joining.
Now, good thing is axis gives downgrade option for LTF Cards. Make sure you confirm that downgrading means current card fees reversal. If they agree and hopefully they will as your card is unused, then downgrade the card first and get the outstanding fees reversed. Then once downgrade is down, put in a closure request of the LTF card if you don't want. Problem solved.
Btw, even if you clear the outstanding, there is high chance that card closure might lead to fee reversal anyways. Even if they close the card and don't reverse the fee, still after closure you can keep fighting with them and chances are they will reverse the fee even if the card is closed. If not, then surely you can go to PNO. But one thing is for sure that banks don't budge at all if the outstanding isn't cleared and you risk of CIBIL hurt anywyas.
