Axis Bank ACE CC Renewal Fee Charged – Any Way to Reverse It?

My Axis Bank ACE Credit Card had its renewal month in February, and I had planned to close it before the fee was charged. However, I forgot to close the card, and now Axis Bank has levied the renewal fee.

I haven’t used the card at all in February. Is there any way to close the card now and get the renewal fee reversed? Has anyone faced a similar situation before?

Would appreciate any guidance on this. Thanks!

I tried but they said you have to pay the outstanding amount only then we can take close request

Check this.

Tried but they are still denying me. Should I escalate it to PNO??

On what basis are you planning to escalate to PNO?
Is it your right not to pay renewal fees?😂
You can only request.
If you had used your card in a good manner( good spending in previous year)
They will process fee reversal and ask you to use it for another year.
If not,you have to pay renewal fee

On the basis of note taking the request as it is approval based and also
On the basis on not using the services for which the fees has been charges( The fees is for next one year but I'm not going to use the card for the period they have charged)

None seems valid.
Not using the service is your problem man. If you purchase Netflix subscription and do not use it,will you ask for refund?

Again you can try. But you can only request. Approval is in their hands.
And certainly making complaint in PNO or RBI Ombudsman will not make any difference in this case unfortunately.

I have axis flipkart card. I used it for 1.95L last yr. They charged me 500+GST in Jan as waiver is on 3.5L. I called them, asked for waiver, they denied, then I told them to close the card, my outstanding was already paid, they transferred me to retention, the person told me you have done 50%+ spends from the amount for waiver, so he said he is raising the request for waiver subject to approval.

He asked if he does raise a request, will I continue the card, I said sure. He raised the request and in 3-4 days I got an email confirming the waiver has been reversed and it reflected aswell in the app, so I kept the card.

My experience tells me this is the only way.

I contacted support through phone call and told I wish to close the card and reverse the charge. They told me I have to clear the outstanding to close the card. Then I told them to upgrade the card to Myzone which was offered as LTF and reverse the annual fee for ACE. They took the request and request was approved.

My main question was whether there is a way to close the card now and have the renewal fee reversed—meaning if any request can be made for the same. Nowhere did I say that I am complaining to the PNO or approaching the RBI for a refund as a right.

P.S. Comparing a CC with Netflix🃏🃏, Banks offer certain services to retain customers, Netflix does not refund charges as a retention strategy.

You did actually. Now pay the fees. Call customer care and forward the call to the retention team. Tell them you will close the card if fee is not reversed. They will reverse fee if they find you as a 'valuable' customer, if not they will close the card. My Ace fee was reversed in the same way( spent 1.5 lakh)

So basically you want to close the card without paying outstanding (which includes fees only I guess).

Idk abt axis, but in SBI there is a way, same might apply to axis.

So in SBI, my brother had fees as outstanding. I on behalf on my brother told SBI I don't want to pay these fees and close the card, they said No. They I told them I want this fee reversed, they said no. But they said I can downgrade the card if these fees is too much for me. Amount was 2999+GST. I said if I downgrade, will the fees be reversed, they said Yes. So I went ahead and downgraded the card to simplysave, it had 500 rs fee for joining.

Now, good thing is axis gives downgrade option for LTF Cards. Make sure you confirm that downgrading means current card fees reversal. If they agree and hopefully they will as your card is unused, then downgrade the card first and get the outstanding fees reversed. Then once downgrade is down, put in a closure request of the LTF card if you don't want. Problem solved.

Btw, even if you clear the outstanding, there is high chance that card closure might lead to fee reversal anyways. Even if they close the card and don't reverse the fee, still after closure you can keep fighting with them and chances are they will reverse the fee even if the card is closed. If not, then surely you can go to PNO. But one thing is for sure that banks don't budge at all if the outstanding isn't cleared and you risk of CIBIL hurt anywyas.

Question - when you get a card isn't the first year fee applicable for the first year? So in this case OP would've paid 500+gst or got it fyf.

Now when they charge renewal fee isn't that for the 2nd year? As in applicable for the year after the fee is paid?

So that would mean if he isn't going to use the card in the 2nd year only the fee makes sense?

Or am I misunderstanding something?

ACE generally comes with 499/- as JOINING FEE and 499/- as ANNUAL FEE.

That means, you pay in advance and use it for one year.

Unless the card was issued - on other terms n during special offers - this is what it is.
