Hey everyone,

I need to make an online payment of around $1,100 USD, and I’m trying to figure out which of my cards would be the most cost-effective. Here are my options:

  • HDFC Infinia – GVP enabled
  • SBI Cashback – Offers 5% cashback, but I’m unsure if it applies to international transactions
  • Amex Platinum Charge Card – 3.5% forex markup + GST (3X rewards)
  • Yes Bank Marquee – 1% forex markup + GST
I’m looking for the option with the lowest effective cost after factoring in forex markups, cashback, and GST. Does anyone have experience using these cards for international payments? Would SBI Cashback really give 5% back on an FX transaction?

Would appreciate any insights! Thanks in advance. 😊

Just a quick response regarding your sbi cb card eligibility to get cb on international transactions: Yes you get CB on international transactions using sbi cb card provided it is an eligible spend.. I got CB on my international transactions .

I think if its online transaction, YES marquee card will give you better reward (4.5-1%) for SBI cash back if I am not wrong markup is 2.5 % or higher maybe.

Whats the fx rate on SBI?

Whats the fx rate on SBI?
Markup is 3.5+ GST (so 4.13%)

Base exchange rate would be Visa/Mastercard determined.

Also bear in mind that SBI CB cashback limit is 5K per month, and $1100 would pretty much mean reaching that limit (if you have done/are planning to do other online domestic transactions on the card )

Marquee is also a good option, but for many online transactions they give offine RP..they are very inconsistent in this regard

I would use Infinia in this case. No complicated math.
Infinia: Forex 2%+GST = 2.36%
Rewards: 3.33% value back in points
GVP: 1% cashback on forex charges (up to 1000 Rs per month; good for up to 1L transaction in foreign currency per month)

Rewards/Cashback (3.33%+1%) - Forex (2.36%)=+1.97% (value back) which is prob. the highest among all the other cards you mentioned.
