Best Credit Cards for International Transactions

Though India is way beyond in the Credit card game and variants but we can notice a great community is being build revolving it and the growth is great in terms of new credit card consumers in past 5-6 years. From insanely popular cashback cards to the cards for nerds, the airmiles cards, we can see a lot of variation. There are specific set of users who are like me who do a big portion of their total spends on International transitions, this thread is specially for them.

The forex markup varies between 0 - 3.5%. But hey, as the Zero markup straightaway seems to save a lot of bucks, but sometimes it's not "the best" option, which I'll discuss. Please do note, that many Debit cards also do come with 0% markup, but you do miss the extra layer of security which comes along with credit cards.

So that's all as of now. Feel free to give your input. This list will keep changing depending on the new card or changed features of the cards.

@Subhankar Maybe IDFC First WOW can be added here? It has 0% forex unlike the other IDFC CC and also has 3-4x rewards which may be decent. Best of all is that it is the easiest to get among all the cards mentioned here and LTF.

Is this WOW above wealth variant?
bcos getting upto select is easy and wealth itself easily we cant get

Not a credit card, but IndusInd's Exclusive debit cards are pretty awesome and beat some of the premium CCs on this list if your monthly spending is sub-1L.

0% forex markup + 1.05% RR (6X reward structure, so it only applies if spends are >40k but <1L, but I think that range is very reasonable.)

If you want to optimize even further, sidegrade to the Mastercard version, the Exclusive World. I did that today by emailing their customer care.

Because Mastercard's FX rates can be anywhere between 0.1-0.7% better than Visa's on average.

Ex: VISA's USDINR rate for today is 79.92 and Mastercard's rate is 79.77, a 0.19% costlier conversion on Visa. I imagine something like Diners Club is significantly worse than both, and that will further eat into your RR.
Were you changed for converting visa signature exclusive to mastercard world exclusive by indusind bank?

Visa has one advantage over mastercard is more airport lounges available including 080 at bengaluru

Do they charge 5% TCS also on debit card transactions?

WOW is FD Card, easiest to get, instant approval. The folks are confusing are IDFC, their higher level cards have high forex rates while entry level FD Card has 0% forex.

Every bank does above ₹7 lakhs

Small correction if u see in a global picture mc lounges are more than visa as per my knowledge
But how will you use it globally, since we have lounge access only within India with Visa/MC directly.

PP, DF DP, DC and others are different right?

So considering where we have access, Visa is better right?

Yeah but most cards don't give access to LoungeKey, it's kind of like PP only, just run in collaboration with MC. We mostly have access to the MC India Lounge Collection. Correct me if I am wrong.
no hands on experience with loungekey since my friend said that there are some charges in the membership and i just ignored.
For him he's a frequent flyer and mostly he is visiting EU so its best for him.
My regalia is on MC which have 12 dom and 6 intl so such cards hope will show both dom and intl too.

Regalia gives priority pass and not lounge key even with mastercard i think

Interesting, have not thought of this much, will explore later when need arises.

IDFC First Wow takes 0% and despite being a secured/FD-backed credit card, it's indeed 0% and works. Even asked for OTP when I did some purchases from Temu.com. Now when I pay the bill on this CC (which will be a domestic transaction), I can get further discount/cashback. I took it despite being a secured CC because of roadside assistance, 0% forex markup, 20% discount at 1500+ restaurants and being based on Visa Infinite platform for which certain websites like Thriwe give rewards.

@Subhankar
What would be the reward rate on RBL world safari if we hit the 7.5 lacs milestone (assume 6 lacs international transaction and remaining domestic)?
Thank you,

They seem to ALWAYS charge it. Even if it's your first 1USD spent overseas they'll charge TCS 5% but only on debit cards. You can use it as tax credit (for all the value belonging to > 7L so up to 35k I assume) when filing ITR.
