In the world of personal finance, many people are always looking for ways to manage their money better and get the most out of their spending. One popular strategy that's gaining traction is using debit cards to pay off credit card bills. This allows you to earn cashback on expenses that wouldn't normally earn rewards. In this article, we'll explore this concept and look at some of the best debit card options for paying off credit card bills.

Understanding the Strategy

Typically, credit card bills are paid using money from a bank account, either automatically or by manual transfer. While these payments don't usually earn rewards, some banks offer cashback incentives for using their debit cards to pay bills. By strategically using a debit card for credit card payments, you can earn cashback on expenses that wouldn't otherwise earn rewards.

Choosing the Right Debit Card

When choosing a debit card for paying credit card bills, there are a few things to consider:
  1. Cashback Percentage: Look for a debit card that offers a good cashback percentage on bill payments.
  2. Debit Card Fees: Consider any fees associated with the debit card, such as monthly fees or transaction fees.
  3. Account Requirements: Make sure you meet any requirements to qualify for the debit card you're interested in.

Something strange has happened today.

I did 3 transactions for my CC bill payment on 18th at Sbi Unipay through Idfc DC amounting Rs. 13000 in total. All three transaction were posted to my credit card successfully.
I received points also for 1 of the transaction also this morning.

Today, I have received full refund for all 3 transaction into my account and even I rechecked my CC statement the credits are still there. 😵

PS:- People were facing payment failure issues and here SBI Unipay has decided to pay my bills 😍

I can see that you received reward points on 15 May as well but the welcome reward points of 8000 has been credited on 23rd

Were you already using normal idfc account and later got it upgraded to wealth?

I just wanted to confirm that they credit the welcome reward points again.

1. Did it happen with anyone else?
2. What could be the possible reason?
3. Can I be charged again by Idfc for wrong refund?
4. Can Sbi Unipay reverse bill payment posted on my card? As it may impact my outstanding bill.

It’s not showing as overdue yet. How can they reverse a settled transaction as it has been more than 5 business days?

It would take time for SBI to identify this issue. They are definitely going to know this when they reconcile their balance sheets. They would have two options that time, first one is they would take the money back (they can, they have their ways which includes putting a lien to your credit card or idfc account)

They might leave it if the amount is small, the bank would bear the loss (chances are less though in case of PSU banks)
If the amount is big, they will take it back sooner or later.
