In the world of personal finance, many people are always looking for ways to manage their money better and get the most out of their spending. One popular strategy that's gaining traction is using debit cards to pay off credit card bills. This allows you to earn cashback on expenses that wouldn't normally earn rewards. In this article, we'll explore this concept and look at some of the best debit card options for paying off credit card bills.

Understanding the Strategy

Typically, credit card bills are paid using money from a bank account, either automatically or by manual transfer. While these payments don't usually earn rewards, some banks offer cashback incentives for using their debit cards to pay bills. By strategically using a debit card for credit card payments, you can earn cashback on expenses that wouldn't otherwise earn rewards.

Choosing the Right Debit Card

When choosing a debit card for paying credit card bills, there are a few things to consider:
  1. Cashback Percentage: Look for a debit card that offers a good cashback percentage on bill payments.
  2. Debit Card Fees: Consider any fees associated with the debit card, such as monthly fees or transaction fees.
  3. Account Requirements: Make sure you meet any requirements to qualify for the debit card you're interested in.

I have a HDFC Platinum Debit Card for the last one year but I never knew about this cashback thing. I want to pay my IndusInd credit card bill for 75k. Do I get the cashback of 750 if I pay that bill through my HDFC mobile app? Or only through netbanking?

Are payments still failing at Unipay after transition to BBPS or has the failure rate dropped now? HDFC Platinum DC still giving reward points for CC payments through Unipay?

Both are eligible. Just use DC option while paying.

Not sure now as looks like that merchant code is changed for credit card bill payment in hdfc bank. We are getting RENTALBBPSNO remarks in the message when we make payment via DC. You need to wait for 1-2 days once people confirms that they are getting cashback or not.

Can anyone please explain how indusind select DC reward calculation works?
I paid 112k bill in 3 parts on same day through unipay but got only 1560 points.

Indusind mc select is giving reward points on JioFinance. Transaction done one 22nd, reward point got credited today. Next will check on airtel and canara.

I paid my HDFC CC bill on SBI Unipay with my HDFC easyshop platinum DC on 23rd.The payment got reflected in my CC today 25th. Will I get the 1% cashback on my HDFC Platinum DC? And if yes when will I get it?

Also, I paid Axis Flipkart CC bill via HDFC Billpay using HDFC easyshop platinum DC but never received the 1% cashback. But got the cashback for paying Indusind CC via HDFC billpay. Doesn't Axis Flipkart CC qualify for 1% cashback on HDFC Billpay anymore?

Yes, you will receive it in 2-3 working days. It should appear in your card rewards by today or tomorrow. Keep checking it once in a while.

That's because HDFC BillPay has started showing Axis credit card payments as 'rental' instead of 'BBPS (utility)', they have messed up the MCC code. Until HDFC fixes this, you can use SBI Unipay or Jio Finance to pay your Axis credit card bill.

Reactivated my old Standard Chartered account and upgraded to priority and paid my first credit card bill via Standard Chartered Priority Visa Infinite Debit Card thru SBI Unipay 4 days back. No reward points have come infact in the rewards360 page my saving account/debit card is missing only credit card are avalible.

Thanks for clarifying that. Lost 500 cashback due to HDFC marking Axis as 'rental'.
