In the world of personal finance, many people are always looking for ways to manage their money better and get the most out of their spending. One popular strategy that's gaining traction is using debit cards to pay off credit card bills. This allows you to earn cashback on expenses that wouldn't normally earn rewards. In this article, we'll explore this concept and look at some of the best debit card options for paying off credit card bills.

Understanding the Strategy

Typically, credit card bills are paid using money from a bank account, either automatically or by manual transfer. While these payments don't usually earn rewards, some banks offer cashback incentives for using their debit cards to pay bills. By strategically using a debit card for credit card payments, you can earn cashback on expenses that wouldn't otherwise earn rewards.

Choosing the Right Debit Card

When choosing a debit card for paying credit card bills, there are a few things to consider:
  1. Cashback Percentage: Look for a debit card that offers a good cashback percentage on bill payments.
  2. Debit Card Fees: Consider any fees associated with the debit card, such as monthly fees or transaction fees.
  3. Account Requirements: Make sure you meet any requirements to qualify for the debit card you're interested in.

It's actually less than 40k

HDFC platinum gives 1% CB upto 750

HDFC millenia gives 2.5% CB upto 400

So to equal millenia's CB, one needs to have 40K CC bills (40k*1%= 400). Anyone with less 40k CC bills/month are better off with Millenia.
Millennia gives 2.5% (16000 × 2.5% = 400)

If I'm paying 40000 CC bill using Millennia DC, I'm in huge loss. Sorry, didn't understand your calculations.

Are you talking about loading wallet using Millennia DC?

He's comparing needing 40k bills paid by platinum to match millenia maximum cashback

Makes sense, but in that case it completely defeats the purpose of having a Millennia DC if I'm only going for a 1% benefit. People would be better off with a Platinum DC if we're making a comparison.

I meant less than 40k.

If you have 30k bill, you can get 400 using millenia but only 300 using platinum travel.

You can even use IDFC/Indus DCs for the remaining 14k in this scenario

So it's advisable to get Platinum DC if CC bills are not than 40k, not 16k. Millenia gives more CB even between 16-40k.

Yeah I'm using like wise only

First Kotak super debit card for 5%
Then millennia debit card for 2.5%
And then indusind debit card

Hey, i was thinking to open hdfc bank account specially for millenia dc to pay credit card bills. I don't have any hdfc credit cards, just icic and rbl. Will the 2.5% cashback still work?

It'll give 2.5% cashback or 1? And does amazon wallet load still gives 1% cashback? No matter which day i pay?
If you are using Millennia then 2.5% upto 400
If you are using platinum then 1% upto 750

I'm not sure about what kind of day are you talking about, but it gives 1% upto 400 (if you load 40K)
