BOB credit Card: Multiple application created by bank and CIBIL check twice

Hi TFians,

I recently applied for a BOB credit card offline through the bank. Earlier today, I received an application number followed by a CIBIL enquiry. Later in the evening, I received another application number along with another CIBIL enquiry. Upon checking the status of the first application, I found that it was rejected. When I reached out to the sales executive who pitched the card, I was told that the rejection was due to a technical error on the bank's end, and they had added another application.
However, if the bank couldn't update the application correctly at first, they should not have issued a rejection message citing internal policies as the reason. I had met all the eligibility criteria for the card, and the rejection seems unjustified.
I have already written to the bank requesting the deletion of the first CIBIL enquiry, as it was caused by their mistake. However, I'm unsure how this will impact my CIBIL score if they don't delete it.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue or can provide insights on how this may affect my credit score? I would appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Solution
Here are my 2 cents:

1. Removing CIBIL enquiry - You did the right thing by asking Bank to delete the 1st CIBIL hit. However, I would suggest escalating that to BoB's PNO (their customer support is not that great) giving complete details and proofs if you have. Keep following with them and they should be able to remove the 1st enquiry.

2. CIBIL score due to multiple hit - I don't think this would significantly impact your credit score. It depends on how many hits you already have on your CIBIL in the past one year or so. EVen though you have lot of hits, I still believe it will not impact much.

3. CIBIL score due to rejection - Again, this should be absolutely fine. Need not worry. There maybe a very minor impact to score, if any...

Hope you get your unnecessary CIBIL hit removed.

Solution
Hi @cnishith1, appreciate your response to my query. However, since the first application was rejected by the bank due to a technical error, they should not list the remark as 'rejected' under internal policies. This misrepresents my eligibility status.
Throughout my entire credit card journey, holding multiple cards, this remark has never appeared before. Hence I was wondering if it would decrease my CIBIL score.

Hard Credit enquiries Will impact credit score but marginally.
You can get it removed by complaining to cibil and bank. Both parties should receive your complaint. But follow up only with bob as they need to do all the work.
Bonus tip: if bob does not remove extra enquiry, you can raise to RBI and then demand compensation.

Thanks for your response, I would have to wait for 1month before complaining to RBI right?

Atleast bob is replying to you
They holding my application from 40 days no update
No verification
Nothing .
Nada
It might be because I submitted an offline application at my home branch, and I have a contact for the sales agent who pitched me the card.
The BOB agents visited my home and office for verification related to my credit card application. This was unusual as none of the other bank credit cards I hold had such requirements. What was more concerning were the types of questions asked during the home verification - they inquired about personal details, family income, house specifics, and even my neighbors' contact information. It felt more like I was applying for a significant loan rather than a credit card.

Thats a good point @credit_geek . However, I would still suggest not be worried. Rejections on credit cards are quite common and should not impact much on credit score. But yes, I understand this misrepresnts on what truly happened at Bank's end was a technical error. Getting that credit check altogether removed would be compartively easier. The reason why I am telling this is beause the more deeper you go to get this fixed, chances are it may not really happen and you would lose of time and energy. I know it's demotivating but I have had sour experience dealing with CIBIL and PNB before.

On side note, below is the my exp with CIBIL and bank - Optional to read
From my personal exp - PNB once added delayed payment on my education loan during Moratorium period. Not sure, how come they became bankers when they don't understand moratorium where a payment itself is not required 🙂. Anyways, that reduced my score a lot by > 80 points. I ran from pillar to post trying to get that rectified. Bank issued me a letter stating that it was a technical error. I raised a complaint with CIBIL to PNB to remove that and to my surprise bank denied the request. I kep on running to branch for about 6 months to no avail. Branch said, the CIBIL complaint is handled by Central back end team and they can't help. Bottom line, there was no result and neither CIBIL helped, nor the Bank, nor the RBI.
Truth is, as a common man after being tired I left it as it is and in 3 years, those delayed payments got hidden from the report and I am back to 800+

Just shared this so that I realized, sometimes with these organizations and banks, even both you and the bank would know what is right, but they simple wouldn't do it.
