Booking flights with different PNR

When booking flights for two passengers, is it better to book through the same portal or separately to maximize discounts or use a mix of points and revenue?
  1. What are the drawbacks of having different PNRs for each passenger?
  2. While most are aware, could you also highlight the disadvantages of having different PNRs for different legs of the journey, based on experience?"

The price for the second ticket may increase by the time you book first ticket, it could be better to do both booking simultaneously but first check that flight is available for booking when you select two pax

Lol yes happened with me. Price increased by 2k right after i booked my ticket. Fucking joke.

if you hold 2 different PNR you cannot check-in your 30Kg single luggage at once, they will ask you to give 2 bags of 15 kg which is pathetic

if price has to increase for second PNR, it will increase while booking 2 seats together.
and u will not get low fare for first too.
Exactly.

It is not really the case now-a-days (mostly) that the ticket price would increase after you book your 1st ticket, because airlines have already decided prices to be increased in blocks. For eg, they'll sell first 10 tickets at 4000 base fare, then 11-20 at 4500, then 21-30 at 5200 and so on. So if all your ticket booking fall within a single block, either single txn or multiple txns, you'll get same price. But if your booking overlaps 2 blocks, you anyway have to pay increased price for 2nd ticket atleast. Some airlines infact take that double advantage of this and charge your 1st ticket too at higher price block, even if it supposed to be in lower amount block.

Now why I said 'mostly' - this price and block algorithm is not this simple. Its complex and may behave very differently when last few blocks of tickets are left. They may dynamically change block quantity as well as pricing based on interest shown by people (based on count of search queries falling on their servers).
