Buying GC from Paytm stopped 5% CB through SBI CB

Seems like the double dip from Paytm using SBI CB has now stopped.

I bought a Nykaa GC on 22-Feb and the MCC used was 5699 (miscellaneous apparel and accessory shops). I got CB for this.

When I bought the same GC on 27-Feb, the MCC used this time was 6540 (wallet loading as per SBI's shared SS). No CB for this transaction.

Has anybody bought any other GC and got CB around 27-Feb from Paytm and got CB?

For both transactions it has been same "PAYTM Noida IN"

Paytm is so notorious for wrong MCCs all over the web. It's very annoying

So you mean to say that there is a chance that this is a temporary issue and not a patch to double dipping?

I believe they keep doing changes carelessly to their payment gateway which leads to wrong MCCs assigned. It may be a permanent change until we complain and it's reported and if they care about fixing it with the right MCC assigned. GC purchase should not ideally show up as wallet but Paytm has to care enough to fix it. Try shaming them on Twitter/X
