CIBIL Scoring Changes: Is Your Credit Score Still Good Enough?

Hi everyone, I’ve noticed some new updates on CIBIL’s official website, which I want to share with you all. Recently, CIBIL has changed its scoring algorithm. Now, the way CIBIL scores are updated has been modified.

  • A score between 748-764 is now considered average.
  • A score between 765-777 falls under the good category.
  • A score of 778 and above is classified as excellent.

Interestingly, my CIBIL score recently increased by around 10 points, even though I didn’t make any changes to my credit profile. In fact, my credit card utilization increased, yet my score still went up. This makes me believe that after the RBI's recent updates, CIBIL has adjusted its scoring algorithm.

Recently, frequent updates caused significant fluctuations in CIBIL scores, so they might have revised their scoring pattern to stabilize it. However, this could impact loan and credit card approvals—banks that used to approve applications with scores around 750 may now require a minimum of 765 for approval.

This is a small change I’ve observed. If any of you have noticed similar shifts in your CIBIL score, feel free to share your experiences here. It will help us understand these changes better.

@Digvijay Did you take any home loan? What kind of credit mix do you have? Where does 58% utilization comes from?

@SSV This may be interesting. 97% on time payment + 58% utilization with high cibil score above 800.

Home loan + credit cards, did some bulk electronic purchase last month so utilization went up.

@tachniki , I was expecting this HL.. without HL and 0 utilization it is almost impossible to get more than 800..
I do believe the Credit porfile is more than 5 years old..

It would be interesting to see the utililzation just for CC account ie excluding HL..

@Digvijay what is your total CL on all your CCs and total outstainding on all CCs.. ( please exclude HL for this calculation).

DO you have CIBIL subscription? if so, please run " Score simulator" and choose " pay all CCs outstanding balances" option and see what it says..
Your score should be increased by around 10 points

you were 800+ wow
Actually back to 804 after I paid those 2L. 🤦‍♂️

Also, SBI is not reporting current balance correctly. I have unbilled pending amount of about 1 lakh on one card and 20k on second card. For both of them SBI reported on 5th February. But they have not reported current balance. Not sure if this was always same.
