Credit card suggestions

Hey everyone, I'm looking for credit card recommendations. I'm breaking down my spends below:

  • online groceries (I use Jiomart) - 3k
  • recharges/bills/gas payment - 3k, rent - 18k
  • medicines (I use Netmeds) - 1.2k
  • swiggy - 1k, swiggy Instamart - 500
  • local groceries with UPI - 2-3k
  • uber - 1k
  • state transport (GSRTC mostly) - 1.5k
  • flight - 10-14k (Indigo is the only available option to my hometown, I do not use only one travel portal in specific for booking)
  • other UPI spends - 5k
additionally, I spend on Amazon/Flipkart

I'm looking for cards(s) that have 1. good reward rate for utility/groceries and UPI and 2. good offers for flights/travel (I saw that Kotak/Federal Bank/ICICI CCs provide good discounts on flight bookings for now) and occasional lounge accesses

I did some of my research and came across a few options:

  • Axis ACE which has good reward rate for utility/recharge with Google Pay - 5%
  • Kotak 6E XL, but the upfront discounts offered by CCs are very high compared to the 6% reward rate
  • HDFC Millennia/SBI Cashback - 5% rewards for Flipkart/Amazon but the reward rate is poor for utilities
  • Tata Neu Inifinity - has 5% rewards for utilities, but I do not use any other Tata brands
  • SC EMT - 10% off on flights
PS: I already have an HDFC Moneyback+ which I use only for Flipkart/Amazon offers. Please let me know if there are better options in HDFC to upgrade it

I think one credit card is not gonna give you all but Ace has very good reward structure even I have this card and if you're looking for travel and shopping credit card the second one you can get is Amazon pay icici credit card cause SBI has lot of exclusion regarding travel. Amazon pay icici card gives you 5% on flight, hotels & shopping as well. Feel free to do your own research

Infinia 🙂 . But that depends on your eligibility, which itself is required to suggest otherwise it will be in your to-do list and by that time you're elibile that card no longer provide benefits.

Anyway,

Based on your listed spends (assuming they are monthly):
  • Approximately ₹4 lakh spends (excluding rent, forget the rent because credit card and rent is history now).
  • This assumes ₹14k spent on flights every month. If you're only flying once a quarter, then your total spending would drop to about ₹2 lakh.
  • Around ₹1 lakh of spending is done via UPI, which suggests you're not utilizing your credit card much or may not need one extensively.
Given this, there’s no point in over-optimizing. It may be better to focus on one or two cards for simplicity. Reevaluate when your spending increases.
If I assume your listed spends are monthly, then its

Don't worry much you're not loosing any value at this point of time.

Btw, you didn’t mention any online or offline shopping or dining spends. These categories could further influence card selection. Check the thread below this post for better understanding about card selection / spends identification.

Anyway, Based on the ₹4 lakh spending assumption, here are some options:

BOB Eterna:

  • 3% cashback (you can load your wallet and use UPI for additional spends).
  • This single card could offer a fee waiver and a 3% reward rate, which is excellent (premium reward rate).
  • Again, eligibility depends on factors like income, relationship with the bank, and credit score.
Single card for all your spends. But as mentioned like Infinia, eligibility depends on your profile. Income, relationship, CIBIL etc.

AMEX MRCC:
  • 3% cashback if you spend ₹20k every month.
  • You could use this card for ₹1.56 lakh in spends, getting a fee waiver and a 3% return. The remaining ₹2.5 lakh could go to the BOB Eterna for a 2.6% return.
  • Overall, this averages out to about 2.8%, but as mentioned, over-optimizing for smaller spends reduces overall reward.
Both of these cards offer cashback/voucher redemption, which I assume is your preferred option. For more details, check thread below this post for better understanding.

Other Options (when spending all to single card):
  • TataNue Infinity:
    • 2.5% cashback (only if all spends are on this card).
  • Axis Horizon:
    • 2.85% cashback, but the annual fee may reduce the benefits. Only go for this card if you're booking flights through TravelEdge portal.
I think one credit card is not gonna give you all but Ace has very good reward structure even I have this card and if you're looking for travel and shopping credit card the second one you can get is Amazon pay icici credit card cause SBI has lot of exclusion regarding travel. Max. 2 cards sufficient otherwise earned rewards/cashback eat up by annual fee or delay in redemption which not as you expected when time comes.
