DCB Acceptance issues on both online/offline spends

Hi All, I am going to get DCB FYF upgrade. I have heard some card acceptance issues for DCB on both online/offline spends. Can anyone with the experience of using this card highlight what the issues are? I have also heard that DCB has tied up with Rupay so acceptance issues should be less. Is it true? Do POS machines in normal or branded stores accept this card? Is there any way or tip to mitigate acceptance issues?

For addon card PIN ..go to net banking..cards.. credit card.. request..ATM PIN ..submit..OTP SMS will be received..use sms OTP at HDFC ATM use register PIN for add on card.. refer it

this option shows only for a primary card and for add on card it is only showing the Physical pin option
It works for add on also..I did it last week.

Just spoke to customer care they said the same thing for the pin setting that otp works for add-on card as well. And for lounge access, they said both primary, as well as add-on card can be used at the same time without any charges.
I had updated in other thread as well and putting same thing again for reference.
I was able to use primary as well as addon card at same time for lounge access at Pune airport but it didn't work at Banglore airport. It was giving " Transaction declined" error so have some backup card with you, don't rely on dinners only.

hi guys, just got hdfc dcb addon for parent. The addon card is not visible in cards section of parent's hdfc app.

1. How to set card controls for addon card?
2. How to set pin for addon card?
3. Will the online transactions otp come to my mobile or addon holder mobile?

Kindly guide. thanks. cc: @TechnoFino @gurubhai @vijay @hariselio
Do you have savings account with hdfc? If you do, you can set addon limits from

Cards -> Request -> Set Card control and Usage limits -> Set Limit/Usage for Addon Cards (maybe it is same for card only users too)

otp will come to the primary holder's mobile. it is written in terms and conditions before you click on the final submit button for addon request.

from what i read on this community, you need o request generate pin for primary card, and use that pin at the atm while inserting addon card. just ensure that you have enabled atm/pos transaction for the addon before going to atm to set the pin.

I have set pin for my addon card yesterday itself using this thread
https://www.technofino.in/community...t-card-card-pin-setup-solved.1327/#post-23878
To summarise:
1. Generated a OTP from net banking for ATM pin setup for primary card(it works for addon too)
2. Use that pin on ATM machine
3. Added phone number with 91 prefix.
4. Entered the new pin 2 times and done.
3. Will the online transactions otp come to my mobile or addon holder mobile?
To answer this point, I think yes because phone number and cvv is same for addon card, but only difference is name on the card. But I am yet to try this out.

phone number should be of primary card holder?

Just to return to the original theme/title of this thread (copy-pasting from my reply in another thread)

Posting this because my experience may be useful to people confused about (1) choosing between a LTF DCB and a paid Infinia OR (2) people considering a move from Visa to Diners Club.

I hold a LTF DCB and have found the DCB to be a good card overall. However, I suddenly experienced a few offline rejections, in a tier 1 city, for important spends. I am not comfortable with this uncertainty over whether Diners will be accepted in a particular establishment or not. I also found myself wasting time in new places wondering whether to swipe the DCB or a backup Visa card (and tap-to-pay never worked).

I wrote to HDFC requesting an upgrade to an Infinia. Grievance Redressal said ‘No’ because of ‘internal guidelines’ - I suspect because I upgraded to the LTF DCB only 3 weeks ago. From this nice forum, I saw two mentions of writing to Mr. Parag Rao - something that would not have occurred to me (thank you). I did so and just received an email from Priority-Redressal-Chairman/MD-desk approving this upgrade.

While Diners acceptance is fairly good, my message is to not rely on it as your primary card - even in major cities. Also, I miss the tap-to-pay feature which I find extremely convenient for small amounts.

I didn’t consider a Magnus card because (a) I have infrequent travel, (b) my spends are below 1L a month and (c) I have dealt with Axis customer support for many years.

Indeed a good read ..I accept with diners acceptance is fairly low these days Even few shop near to my locality have stopped accepting diners when ever i try to swipe i get the message card not supported (Not sure why!) when i spoke to HDFC team they said there are many issues reported in recent times both online and offline some are saying might be issue with tokenization. Hope they fix this

Some new observations:

  • On some sites where DCB isn't supported, I tried using the PhonePay option in order to pay using DCB but my points for that transaction got reversed. I think they are considering this as a wallet reload. Not sure.
  • I was gutted to find that Agoda doesn't support DCB though they accept AMEX. I have an upcoming trip and was counting on using DCB but no use.
  • I miss the Tap and Pay feature badly as I was soo used to it.
  • I paid using DCB at fuel station for the amount of Rs 470/- but they charged me Rs 486/- and got a fuel surcharge waiver of around Rs 4.86/- so not a good option. Feel charges are higher if used at fuel station when compared to Visa.

Fuel has a minimum surcharge of ₹10+GST. So fueling below ₹1000 will cost you few extra rupees. I have no idea why you were charged ₹16 extra.

The other side bank (acquiring bank) may also add the surcharge. Credit cards reverse only their part of surcharge. Please use HDFC Bank machines if using diners card.

can you share some more details on upgrade to infinia on a 3 week old dcb and what you wrote to Mr. Parag Rao (along with his email id)?
i have just received my dcb but may want to follow your route if there are so many acceptance issues.
