Does anyone has bought a car using credit card ??

I did make a downpayment for my car and they did not charge me the 1.5-2% fees but most dealers would charge you that. Apart from that I don’t think there should be an issue since you have the sufficient credit limit. 🤷‍♂️

I am planning to buy a car with onroad price 15LPA, is there any credit card magic I can use to save some money or earn some rewards points ? I am having Hdfc infinia card with a limit of 20L.
beware, a 15L transaction might get you into trouble with hdfc as they can claim it is a business expense, or violates t&c because you are buying assets using cc which is not permitted in many cases.
so if you have many cards, better try to split the payments into all those cards.

also on the same card, you can try making 1st payment in a day just before your statement gets generated, and another just after that day. so that statement based capping can be avoided. also the dealer can get the sale proceedings counted in the same month.

Car is not a asset. These banks are playing with our indian mindset. Car is yet another shopping product that you buy, just because most Indians get attached to a car purchase they are fooling us. Atleast gold can be asset as its value would appreciate. If banks deny points on card purchase it's a red alert and we can vouch for our points as there is no clear terms and conditions for this

I used multiple cards for my Car rcently.

HDFC Regalia
IDFC Wealth
Axis Ace
SC Ultimate

Bargained with sales guys to pay only 1% and got more than 1% back on all cards.
Also since it is on multiple cards, it won't be high value txn.

If you have Magnus, you can do 1L on magnus and rest on Infinia.
If your Infinia is paid one, you complete your annual milestone for waiver plus get the reward points 🙂
But all of this depends on how much dealer charges you for using CC. If there are no fees or less fees than the reward rate, above works.

I bought a used car on my Ultimate, they charged 1.8% extra, but I got 3.3% back, so I guess that was a win.
I suppose they charged you the MDR? Can you not get a refund from the dealer by complaining to the POS issuing bank and the brand?

As it is illegal and complaining directly to the car brand via social media e.g. Twitter or their own channel stating you have been illegally charged MDR may work for you?

they don't give any receipts for that extra charge (MDR) and they don't include that charge on card, they ask it in cash or UPI.

How were you able to split the transaction into multiple one?

As the waiting time is high for more than 3-6 months in case of some manufacturers you can ask them you will pay in instalments. They will accept, in that case Magnus you can hit milestone for 6 months.

2% additional on amount depends on the dealer.
Looks promising in theory. But has anyone actually done it yet using their magnus ?

Also would car dealers accept payment from cc from 6 different installments?
