First Annual Fee Reversal post migration to Axis - Indian Oil Card (Ex Citibank card)

One of the member in my family holds Citibank Indian Oil card (Paid variant) and in past got fee reversal every time in last 3 years.
Post migration to Axis bank from Citi, got first statement billed 2 days ago with Annual Fees being charged.

This time we decided to close the card since there is not much use on the card except only for Spend based offers whenever sent by Citibank, but to our surprise "Axis being Axis" , the customer care executive mentioned card can be closed only after paying the annual fees. This was surprising since we never being asked by any bank in past (even Axis) to pay the annual fees first whenever requested for Card closure, banks generally reverse the charges & close the card.

Had a long discussion with executive but she was not convinced and insisted to pay fees first, but later on asked if we can continue the card if annual fees are reversed and having no other option we accepted it without any second thought. Took 5-8 mins keeping call on hold and then processed the reversal request.

So two things to experience for the first time: -
> Axis asking to pay annual fees first to take request for card closure
> Axis reversing annual fees for first time for us in last 5-6 yr of relationship with Axis

Will do it next year now when the annual fees gets charged again !!
