Flipkart Incorrect MCC issue - Finally received cashback for my transaction on Flipkart

On Oct 20th, I purchased Mobile on Flipkart using my SBI Cashback card. As per terms, I should have received a cashback of Rs.562 but SBI Card denied giving cashback stating that my transaction on Flipkart is showing up as SCHOOL/EDUCATION related transaction. I found online that many faced same issue with Flipkart.

1. First, I escalated this issue to Flipkart and they denied n blamed SBI for this issue.

2. Next Raised this with SBI cards and they blamed Flipkart stating MCC code error on Flipkarts end.

3. Raised complaint on National consumer forum against Flipkart. Ntg happnd and Flipkart closed my case blaming SBI Card.

4. As per Chatgpt suggestion, raised complaint on RBI OMBUDSMAN against SBI CARDS coz as per Rbi rules, even though MCC error happend at Flipkart end, SBI had to raise this issue with Flipkarts payment gateway issuing Bank. So SBI didnt do this investigation when I I raised this MCC issue n hence did a mistake in closing my case without proper resolution.

5. Initially, SBI provided same resolution on my RBI complaint blaming Flipkart. But when I dropped email to them with RBI rules etc, they finally agreed to process my cashback.

Great. Request everyone to raise it with SBI Cards and escalate it to RBI. I also received my cashback after raising it with SBI PNO. Flipkart has been doing such shady things for a long time now. If there are multiple complaints against them, banks & RBI might take action against them.

Just read through RBI's reply.

Heres the problem, their response is akin to saying that SBI is letting you win this battle but not the war.

After you have so eloquently put up the crux of the issue, SBI and RBI both just straight up ignored it.

Why is the Merchant using an incorrect MCC for a mobile device that is causing the issue in the first place?

Feels like RBI is becoming useless as each year passes. People say that banks are afraid of RBI but are they really? Small penalties mean nothing to them.
 
@kartikpj Hi, can you DM me the whole body of the compliant which you have raised on RBI OMBUDSMAN. Recently I have used my Swiggy HDFC credit card and did a transaction of 30k. It is eligible for 5% CB as per its MCC 4111/Online. They provided me only 1% CB. Currently it is under Nodal officer and 18th Dec is deadline. Every level is saying that as per T&C, it is eligible for 5%. But they are not processing the CB. Next I have to raise it to RBI OMBUDSMAN. It would be helpful if you reply here the matter or DM me. Thanks in advance.
