VIP Subscription Price Hike – My Thoughts & Expectations

For the past few days, I had been receiving messages about an upcoming price increase for my VIP subscription after its expiration. The notifications advised me to renew the plan immediately to lock in the current price. Since I was fairly certain that the cost would rise soon, I made the decision to purchase the VIP plan in advance.

Looking at the trend, I strongly believe that by next year, the VIP plan’s price will increase to at least ₹1,000. Along with the price hike, I also expect them to introduce new features and benefits to justify the cost increase over time. It’s a common strategy among service providers—gradually raising the price while enhancing the product to retain existing customers.

Competing with Amazon – A Tough Challenge?

Interestingly, it seems like they are attempting to compete directly with Amazon, which dominates almost every industry it enters. However, they must recognize that Amazon is in a league of its own—it’s a market leader that has set high standards for convenience, pricing, and customer service. Competing with such a giant is no easy task.

Looking at past examples, Flipkart also tried to challenge Amazon head-on but faced several hurdles along the way. If this company follows a similar strategy, they must ensure they don’t overextend themselves, or they might end up struggling just like Flipkart did.

How This Competition Benefits Consumers

One undeniable fact is that competition is always beneficial for consumers. When companies fight to provide better services at competitive prices, customers get more choices, better features, and improved overall value. If this pricing war continues, we can expect:

Seems they've also devalued some features, the cap on maximum supercoin earning for a start... Not sure the additional benefits provided on Cleartrip compensates well enough. CT has decent card offers, perhaps combining those with the aditional 300 might be worth it... Their convenience charges, while not as obnoxious as those of Yatra, is still higher than the likes of EMT. Hope they won't silently increase the same.
Anyways I got the renewal done last month, so don't have to worry about it for a year...

you can actually buy FK VIP from the below link.. but dont buy if you already have valid existing VIP subscription . it won't extend the curent one..
I renwed it for one year. and it went successfully .. but I bought again using the below link.. the transaction went through .. but the VIP was not extended for one more year (ie, stacking up for the 2nd year).. so I had to call FK and asked them to refund for my second subscription.. and I got the refund...

Can but it again before expiry but it won't get activated and was fighting with customer care for 15 days before they refunded and I got the option to buy again.
P.S. I was told to but vip via upi only. If you buy via any other method there is chance that it won't get activated.

For membership under this Program, You must satisfy the conditions around the membership determined by Flipkart in its sole discretion. Currently, you have to pay Rs.799 as an annual subscription fee and Rs.3 as platform fee to avail benefits for Flipkart VIP programme.
Any fees paid by you for purchasing this membership is non-refundable and subject to applicable taxes. The fees for membership is subject to change without prior notice and Flipkart will not entertain any communication in this regard.
Membership under this Program will be valid for one year from the date of activation by You or for such period as communicated by Flipkart during the start of the membership.
Flipkart, at its sole discretion, may also offer limited period memberships as promotions which may be subject to additional terms and conditions and the benefits under such terms may also be modified by Flipkart at its sole discretion.
