Today, I visited my nearest newly opened (2 month ago) branch. The security guard informed me that I needed to return on April 2nd because no other employees were available—only the security guard and the branch head were present. When I inquired about opening an account, he told me to ask the branch head. After mentioning the 10k account, the branch head began filling out my account opening form, which surprised me since other branches had been denying account openings. He was knowledgeable and mentioned the SBPRO RPDC and the last seven digits of my choice. He only asked about my profession, and besides that, he required only copies of my Aadhaar and PAN for proof. He also said that the account would be activated on April 2nd after I deposit 10,000 in cash.
So yes, experiences vary from branch to branch.
