Went for general service, and was given estimate of 8500 excluding tax, for a general service of 12 y old Etios Liva.
By evening, I was told that, rear suspension, front brake pad, engine v belt and clutch assembly needs change...
After my friend, a senior manager in iffco tokio in Kerala, I was adviced just to get the brake pad changed, and leave the v belt as such if no sound.
Conveyed the same to the service centre, and told the agent to keep the amount minimal and to add employee discount. He kept on saying from morning 'Mein hoon na', and this started sounding irritating and dangerous.
I went for the pickup. Drove the car and all was fine.. even alignment and balancing of wheels felt okay (paid)
Now I asked for the bill, he made all the max discounts and told me he had reduced maximum possible to 6500 Including tax. I thought this also included the cost of the brake pad. Knowing it was an overkill, I asked him to add employee discount to round it to 6000. But, to my surprise, he obliged and gave a bill of 6000. I handed him the money. He did not give any receipt on recieving the money. I told him to send it tomorrow via mail and started to leave.
Now came the third act. He silently, asked 2000 for the brake pad.. i said what? By now, I started understanding what is happening. He said brake pad is different, and I asked for bill. I will pay. He said it can't be billed, and my doubt was confirmed. He then took me away from other executives, who were visibly eavesdropping.
Outside, away from all, told me this was the brake pad of another liva, which ran for 15k km, and had brake pad of 7 mm, whereas that of a new one is 10+mm and mine was 2.4mm.
Phod visphod hogaya udhar. I was completely in a hostile environment. Still I stood my ground. That prick never told me he was gonna add a used pad. Only after the payment and test drive.
I was about to register a complaint, and he got visibly afraid.. and finally agreed to remove the used pad and insert a new bosch pad after checking the brake pad and measuring infront of me, and inserting all the parts in front of me, and I forced him to print the MRP of the part only-3230 without any labor charge. With nothing to be done, he obliged.
Even by the end, visibly appalled, the prick was not interested to say sorry. The technician blamed everything on the agent, when he was away.
Summary - know your right. Ask every minute details. If one is too polite, he has the most dirtiest trick to hide.
Note - Odisha had given me 10+ such incidents in the last 5 years. From stealing my stethescope in hospital, my SMK helmet stolen from a reliance smart store, to a random prick breaking and stealing my cars wiper, I've seen it all. Won't say the entire people is worse, but I am happy I have decided to move on from this place which the ex CM himself emphasizes as 'Odisha - the best kept secret of India'. ✌️
