Govt Payments | Credit Cards Suggested and charges levied

Hi All,

I hold following cards and would like your suggestion for payment for making payments for ITR, advanced tax, property tax and NPS contribution -

1. Amex Plat Travel
2. Amex MRCC
3. BOB eterna
4. SC Ultimate

Please suggest if you have any other card recommendation for these payments.

Do you get points on all these cards for income tax payment?
If so, then Amex Platinum travel is the best to reach the 4 lakhs target per year and get 48000 points worth 24000 + 10000 Taj voucher worth 6000. Approx 7.5% return

But I don't think income tax website accepts American express cards

very few card gives points for Govt Transaction even if they do they charge extra or have limits on the point u can earn

2. Property taxes beyond 15k - if MRCC monthly milestone needed then use otherwise plat travel.
3. NPS - only Amex Gold gives MR points on investment, rest MRCC / plat travel don't. But milestone benefit on all amex (NPS Tier 1). Tier 2 does not accept CC. Costs 0.80% in PG charges though
4. Advance tax / income tax (self assessment). Visa /MC/Rupay work. Amex does not. 0.80% PG charges lowest using HDFC Bank PG (so any card giving RP over 1% / milestone benefit works.

SC Ultimate is giving rewards for Tax payments. Use HDFC gateway and it is giving 3.3% - 0.944% charges

Since you already hold SC Ultimate, I am assuming you have figured out its point redemption options suitable to you

i have only infinia, Magnus Both r my primary cards.. Rest IDFC wealth just got few days back & Amex Platinum Reserve. I think need to close these 2 and got for sc Ultimate if they give tax benefits

If you have significant tax outgo then Biz black is better than SC Ultimate... SC Ultimate also needs 3L worth of spends to be eligible for any meaningful 10K voucher redemption

I have both SC Ultimate and Biz Black, have stopped using SC Ultimate for tax. Now just use it for Amazon Pay wallet loads (3.3 - 2.36 = 1% plus payment via DC another 1%) -- those balances are mostly used for UPI transactions to individuals. That helps me reach the milestones for redeemable points much more easily.

I tried using my SC Ultimate card to make the payment but everytime it fails without any reason once I enter the OTP. Amount has not been deducted from card though. Any experience like this?

You should reach out to customer care with screenshot and check whats wrong

My transactions have gone through multiple times. Latest being on 15th June

SC customer care said they can't do anything as this is not coming from bank end.

Seems something wrong on masterCard network. It went through with a Visa card.

Paid income tax using Amex via Canara Bank PG. It is working.

This is great way to complete Amex milestone when most cards (except hdfc bizblack) not giving any points for tax payments.

Have around 70k tax payment. Thinking if i should use Hdfc regalia to get milestone benefits or Apay to get 1% cashback. Also have Indusind Legend and amex mrcc.
