This is a sticker that goes over your original card. What I have done is got a Laser Etched Metal Card with the design of my choice (J P Morgan Reserve and American Express Centurion) and transplanted the chips from the original plastic cards. I have lost the swipe (anyway not used in India) function though that can be done using a reader/writer and copying the data from the original card to the new one. Inserting the card into the POS works because the POS is reading the original chip. In the original card the the chip is also connected to a kind of wire embedded in the plastic which allows the Tap or NFC function. This is missing in these metal cards. However it's only a matter of time before this also becomes available.
Today I tried out my JP Morgan Reserve at a Pastry Shop. The girl at the counter asked me if it was an International card. She was not very convinced when I said it's local but still inserted it into the POS. Worked without a glitch.
Told my wife to try out the Amex Centurion next time.
