After BHIM app, now Google Pay app has got the UPI Tap & Pay feature since the past 2 months.
Sadly, tap & feature has been removed from the latest/ updated version of BHIM. Not only Google pay, even Canara, PNB, Axis Pay, SBI (recently launched), etc. supports it.
The main difference is; on BHIM, tap and pay was working with UPI Lite balance, supposed to make both online and offline txn (without internet connectivity, miserably failed, when I had tried) & money gets debited from UPI LITE X and gets credited in the same (in case of P2P) of beneficiary's/ receiver's A/c (obviously updated balance will be shown after getting connected with internet), whereas others (GPay, Canara, etc.) work with the UPI Lite balance, if it's enabled and has enough balance and txn is ≥ ₹500 and in case of otherwise, with the Savings A/c.
Has anyone tried transferring money through it ?
Yes, tried it. But it didn't work the way it's supposed to be.
My question is: Does UPI Tap & Pay work on Peer to Peer (P2P) mode ?
See, I have tried doing this txn as well in 2023 but we were unable to make such txn that time may be because of device/technical/optimization issue as it was newly launched.
I have tried transferring/receiving money through GPay between my 2 phones with NFC enabled but even though the devices beep and vibrate to show NFC connection has been established, the money transfer does not take place.
Tried this with BHIM app too but same problem as above.
Anyone had any success with this?
No success, I haven't tried with G-Pay as I don't use it for UPI. When I tried on BHIM in 23, it was failed for some reason. Btw, both is capable of making both P2P & P2M txns.
Having said that, if you are still on old version and want to try, follow the steps, most likely it will work now:
1) Enable your & receiver UPI Lite X, add/load on both the account ₹1
2) Enable NFC on both the devices, if there's option of BHIM in default payment then choose BHIM and if it's not available then choose pay with: app in use.
3) Open receiver's BHIM app homepage
4) You, click on tap & pay, enter amount and tap your phone (back side) to receiver's phone (back side)
See if it's works or not, try with internet & without internet, lemme know.
For me, Tap & Pay only make sense for offline txn (not available) between P2P & P2M. Now, it's no more available in the latest version.
