If this is true, I wonder what they want people to use the cards for.
The line where i said where mobile phone sold if electronics exist ( this line is ment in case they use pos machine for swipe of brand phone pos machine you might end up without rewards, but for direct phone exclusive sales where pos is under agreement with samsung so what mcc they say under them only it must be registered and you will not fetch points but with capping.

Utility i can understand but what is this telecom and telephone sales, what might be for such transaction (who will use this?) Is a question mark, some says Telephone sales are not mobile phone sales. Is this true ? But anyways (credit card is just a credit end of the day, you don't have money use credit. if you have money use debit)

Telecom is like utility only, although MCC is different. Connotation of telecom, telephone sales probably comes from earlier era where companies such as BSNL/MTNL/Airtel who used to give handsets also along with connection. Probably such MCCs were crafted back then. Now nobody calls mobile sales as telephone sales

Samsung retailers are probably using this hack / loophole to get themselves issued with such MCCs which have lower MDR than retail and hence this issue.

Maybe, Maybe not but we as a consumer are in mess. But mdr is never an issue it's same in all categories and fixed price for each type of network or credit or debit because I also have business and have pos infact no mdr in my pos because of discussion from bank and a deal made for large order in massive scale expansion. But mdr are fixed by rbi no changes in this can be done

How is MDR not an issue? Merchants registered under utilities, Insurance etc. have lower MDRs or may be banks negotiate the rate easily on these categories. And if MDR negotiation was possible or so easy, everyone would negotiate MDR to zero. But I don't think that is the fact. Biggest of big retailers / merchants have MDR expenses

I have mdr under automobile and it was negotiated very simple and easy and mdr is standard rates for credit its 2% and for debit below 5k its 0.5% above 5k its 1% and for amex its 3% rupay its 3% its std charges and mdr is negotiable depending on your way you deal with bank. I have 0mdr except for amex which is 1.5% that was non negotiable but still better deal off.

If mobile instruments get limited to 2000 points (though there is no such information from HDFC), then smartbuy would also not be able to give 5X/3X reward points on iphone.
I had bought an iPhone 16 pro in this month through smartbuy. Got the accelerated reward points.

So what you are saying has somthing else to do with. Do find out. Also if possible share the bill of purchase on this thread to understand it well.

Though as far as I remember there was no additional instant discount on HDFC cards this season. I had also searched all over and finally decided to go via smartbuy.
