HDFC credit card's bill payment status changed from "Paid" to "Unpaid"

I have an HDFC Swiggy credit card, whose statement was generated on 16th April. I had paid the total amount due (Around ₹5,000) the same day on SBI Unipay, and also got instant confirmation from HDFC Bank via SMS, and the "Total Amount Due" value got changed to ₹0.00 instantly as well. For the past 2 days, the "Total Amount Due" value had stayed at ₹0.00 even though it is yet to be reflected in the current statement.

However, today, I noticed that the the value of "Total Amount Due" changed from "₹0.00" to back to the original statement amount!

Called up their customer care, and they had no records of the payment. Even the Bharat Connect-powered apps are now showing the full statement amount as payable when I enter my card details, which doesn't usually happen with HDFC cards once you pay the total amount due for the last statement.

What sorcery is even this?

EDIT (One day later): The issue has been resolved. It was a technical glitch at HDFC's end. The payment is now being reflected in the statement and even the TAD has been adjusted to ₹0.00.

Check your bank balance to see if it got reversed. I get reversal SMS but I pay all my dues from GPay. Can't say the same for SBI Unipay because as long as I had used, all my payments were credited and an acknowledgment SMS was also received from the recipient bank.

As mentioned, HDFC Bank themselves acknowledged the payment right after the bill was paid successfully on SBI Unipay, which uses the Bharat Connect platform.

I had got the following SMS from them:
"DEAR HDFCBANK CARDMEMBER, PAYMENT OF Rs. 5000.00 RECEIVED TOWARDS YOUR CREDIT CARD ENDING WITH 0069 ON 16-4-2025.YOUR AVAILABLE LIMIT IS RS. XXXXXX"

So, the point of reversal makes no sense once the bank themselves acknowledged the payment.

Also, one thing I forgot to mention in my original post: Once they credit the cashback, let's say ₹x, the value of "Total Amount Due" also gets reduced by ₹x. The cashback was credited yesterday, but yet the total amount due now is mentioned to be the same as the last statement amount.

If you have few more days before your due date then may be you can wait and watch to see what happens. I generally get two messages when I do hdfc cc payment, one immediately and one on the next day when it again tells me the same thing that payment was received against your CC. Never saw Total Amount Due resetting back to original though.

Of course. When you pay the amount through either IMPS or any Bharat Connect-powered payment app, you get an SMS from HDFC Bank instantly about receiving a payment. And it also adjusts the Total Amount Due (TAD) instantly as per the actual payment regardless of whether the payment is settled or not. I have noticed the same for both my Mastercard and RuPay HDFC cards.

The second SMS which you get after a day or two, is when the payment actually gets settled and starts reflecting in the statement.

Don't reveal your card's last 4 digits ^
I didn't reveal the actual card number though. I mean, I would have loved to have a card number ending with "0069." 😝

Has it happened with anyone of you before?

Now guess if such thing happens after due date. Unnecessary inconvenience.

However, you have proofs to back your claim, always download/ take screenshot after making payments from Unipay. You should have received SMS & E-mail alert as well.

Not only that the confirmation was made by HDFC itself.

Check if the txn got reversed, check you bank account, if such amount was refunded. It was happened in the past with somebody, I don't remember exactly.

Here, we may need to fight but why even it's required, at the first place.

IMO, introduction & implementation of Deemed Success flow sort of thing is chaos from Customer's POV.

I still have around 18 days left for the due date though — hopefully I'll get a resolution by then. Today, I have already emailed to HDFC's Level 1 Credit Cards Support, SBI Unipay, and even Bharat Connect's customer care email. Ab dekhte hain aage kya hota hai.

However, it's highly unlikely the transaction got reversed. HDFC had already acknowledged the receipt of the payment right after the transaction got completed on the SBI Unipay portal on 16th April (Got SMS from HDFC Bank as proof). And even post that, until yesterday evening, the Total Amount Due was being shown as ₹0.00. So, it makes no sense for them to reverse it all of a sudden today.

Yeh pata nahi faltu ka mental trauma create karne mein inko kya mazaa aata hai. Bhai, sahi bataun toh kismat Jethalal jaisi ho chuki hai aajkal. 😕

Great magar level 1 se nahi puchna tha, kya pata template copy paste karke chipkaye, though let's wait and see.
Keep me posted.

It got reversed for someone else in past. Don't remember the facts clearly RN.

Yep

Txn got settled, right? Or, was it still in processing unitil yesterday?
So, it makes no sense for them to reverse it all of a sudden today.
It also doesn't make sense to make increase TAD by 5k after making payment (2 days or so), but it did happen. That's how. 😂

Wahi kya kya sab ho raha hai 😑

Waise txn (credit) ka entry hai ya wo bhi gayab ho gaya, Unipay & HDFC se?

Learnt it the hard way — If you have got ample time left, always go step-by-step through a proper escalation matrix, and quote the previous one's reference ID as you go up top.

Perhaps, it could have been a failed transaction. It's highly unlikely to get reversed after the bank/credit card institution acknowledged the payment.

No, it hasn't settled yet. Just the Total Amount Due balance was adjusted to "₹0.00" right after the payment was made on SBI Unipay, which somehow got reset back to the latest statement amount (~₹5,000) today.

It also doesn't make sense to make increase TAD by 5k after making payment (2 days or so), but it did happen. That's how. 😂
That's because the transaction wasn't settled yet. However, it's common for HDFC to reduce the TAD once a payment is made, which could even include a refund from the previous statement or a cashback. They usually settle the bill payment transactions on the next working day.

Also, the cashback for my Swiggy card was credited yesterday, which should have effectively reduced the TAD, but guess what? After the TAD was reset today, it hasn't been reduced either!

Waise txn (credit) ka entry hai ya wo bhi gayab ho gaya, Unipay & HDFC se?
Unipay mein toh show kar raha hai in the Transaction History for obvious reasons (Woh bhi as successful). As for HDFC, mere paas unka SMS hi hai, which was received on 16th April, as the proof of acknowledgment. The SMS mentioned, "DEAR HDFCBANK CARDMEMBER, PAYMENT OF Rs. 5XXX.00 RECEIVED TOWARDS YOUR CREDIT CARD ENDING WITH 0069 ON 16-4-2025.YOUR AVAILABLE LIMIT IS RS. 420,069"
