HDFC Millennia DC: Smartbuy 5% + 5% + 2.5%

This post is regarding earning 12.5% on Smartbuy using HDFC Millenia. There is nothing new in this but many of us are missing higher CB on low spend.

We all know that Millennia DC has max. cap of Rs.400 as 5% cashback so we mostly use it for 16000 CC Payment or some use it for wallet load of 40K.

The thing I analyzed today was, my friend in Dec- 2023 used his Millennia DC on smartbuy for Rs.5000 for flipkart voucher only and nowhere else. When I checked his rewards, it were 5% smartbuy cashback offer (upto Rs.1000/month) for HDFC cards i.e Rs.250 were credited in April 2024, 5% Millennia DC specific for txn on Smartbuy/Payzapp i.e as per TnC and also 2.5% as online usage. Total 375 was credited to him. Max. is 400.

With Millennia CC it was confirmed since years that smartbuy txns were giving 5% cashback + 1% online spend so total 6% but same is with Millennia DC also.

So next time when you buy A gift card from smartbuy worth Rs. 5340 will fetch you- Rs.267+133.50 = Rs. 400 (50 paisa 😆 will not be given as 400 is max limit). The smartbuy cashback of 5340*5/100= 267 will be extra and come under 1000 cashback category.

Main point missed was the 5% debit card specific cashback and 2.5% online and 1% offline/wallet load, all have a cumulative limit of max. 400. So most of us missed this thing as were spending more than 8000-16000 every month.

Solution
If it is 8.96%, then only I want to buy AGV 5000 every month using millennia DC; otherwise, it's a loss for me. The problem is I have to wait 90 days to verify. Thats why asking.
6.46% is guaranteed. Rest questionable now as some people told they didn't get it (extra 2.5%). I can't verify myself these days as paying 16K bills.
Another thing that confused me is... in Payzapp shop they are providing 3% for DC (all DC right?) but it was written 5% here https://www.hdfcbank.com/personal/pay/cards/millennia-cards/millennia-debit-card (ur given link). I can see the Payzapp page. It is clearly mentioned as 3%, and the change (5% to 3%) was possibly done 2-3 months back.
When you purchase APayV or any other voucher...

I think no one observed 5k ×7.5% = 375, why this post is misguiding a lot🤣

So it's only 2.5% for online transaction and 5% for smartbuy

For current 2- 3% with vouchers its coming down to again 4.5% cashback

@desiviru has not disillusioned anyone. He has given correct explanation of utilising millennia dc to its full extent.

I know some don't get cashback. But for them, they need to take care of MCC.

I don't think he also got 12.5% cashback as 12.5×5000 = 625 and we are capped at 400 and he got 375 then how he's mentioning 12.5% cashback?
There are 3 percentages here: 2.5%, 5%, and another 5%.
  • The 2.5% and 5% apply to the ₹400 millennia cap.
  • The 5% (Smartbuy) applies to the ₹1,000 cap and is universal for all HDFC cardholders.
Read this thread to understand how it works. From the looks of it, you seem new to Millennia/Smartbuy.

This 5% Smartbuy cashback offer is additional.

Nope, smartbuy cashback is variable. I got 10% in smartbuy as I did transaction on pharmeasy.

In case, you are asking about millennia's smartbuy cashback, it's 5% as well.
