HDFC Credit Cards how late payment affect cibil score

Sravan

TF Buzz
I recently paid my HDFC Bank credit card bill on September 16, 2025, but the due date was September 12, 2025—that's about 4 days late. Will this impact my CIBIL score, and if so, how significantly? Also, is there any chance to avoid or mitigate the effect on my CIBIL score? Any insights from credit experts on grace periods, reporting timelines, or ways to handle this would be appreciated!

It will affect 100%. How much depends upon ur credit history credit age how many credit ac u have and many more things. If u have cibil subscription try checking on that

Nothing much in long term

Just a blot that 100% payment on time record is over

3 month will take to recover

Just call the customer care and speak with them. Ask them to make an exception. If it's your first time and you are a long time customer then they will waive off the charges and won't report to CIBIL for late payment. If they are not agreeing then drop a mail to Grievance.Redressalcc@hdfcbank.com.

Mark it as a solution if it helped.

Thank me later.

Usually banks are required to give 3 days grace period to customers as per RBI. Means even if u delay ur credit card payment by 3 days banks can waive off the penalty fees and avoid Cibil reporting. Some banks even waive off upto 5 days delay. Banks do this as a goodwill gesture especially for those customers who have delayed for the first time and have an otherwise good repayment history. I would suggest you to contact HDFC immediately through email (for written proof) and politely request them to waive off any late penalty/Cibil reporting. Explain them that this happened because u were caught up with some emergency at home and tell them about ur long standing HDFC relationship. Because urs got delayed by 4 days so they may deny initially but if u escalate to their level 2 and request nicely then they may oblige. They may give u a warning not to delay again in future.
(Lastly if they dont agree tell them atleast not to report to Cibil and that u r ready to pay the penalty--most importantly get everything in writing)

Most probably they will remove penalty. But they will report to cibil. However delayed payment cibil score usually corrects in 2-3 months.

For me getting 1 late payment remark in Cibil is more scary than the late penalty. They usually take 7-15 days to report to Cibil. OP is completely at the bank's mercy now. If it is his first time and the amount is not big then HDFC bank may waive off both the Cibil reporting and the late penalty. Many people have got their Cibil corrected back by requesting the bank.

Keep at-least min amount due (or Total amount if possible) auto pay for every card possible.
This way CIBIL is not affected. And auto-debit messages and emails remind you that a bill needs to be paid.

I paid late by 5 days in hdfc and 6 days in icici both times I called CC immediately and request to not report in cibil but they said nothing can be done. But after I paid the penalty they did not reported to cibil. I don't know if calling them helped or paying the penalty.

I would prefer paying penalty over Cibil reporting any day. No amount of money can bring back those 40-50 Cibil points I might lose if the bank reports late payment
