Understanding Rewards-Based Cards for Hotels
In a nutshell, I can share what I know. There are two ways to redeem or use the points.
You can use the cards for various expenses and accumulate points. Some cards offer milestone benefits, where you earn additional points upon reaching specific milestones. Additionally, there are specific reward multiplier sites and partner brands that offer more points than usual.
Once you have accumulated all these points in your card account, you can link your hotel or airline account and transfer the points. In some cases, you may receive special offers when transferring more points or during specific times. After transferring the points to hotels or airlines, you can log in to the respective website and use your points to book tickets or hotels.
Another method is to use the points from card issuer bank portals, such as Smartbuy in HDFC and iShop in ICICI. Through these portals, you can book flights or hotels and directly redeem your points. However, some banks may only allow you to use 70% of the points, requiring you to pay the remaining amount. Most banks have such reward portals where you can either earn more points by making purchases or redeem existing points while making payments, instead of transferring them to hotels or airlines.
