HSBC Closed my Credit Card - Discussion

HSBC has closed my CC on 29th November. This is outrageous.

I had asked them to transfer the compensation amount of Rs. 20,000 to my SB Ac. After 2/3 mail exchanges they transferred the amount on 29th Nov to my SB Ac.

Till this morning, I was completely unaware of the fact that the card has been closed. I have not received any mail/call/SMS. When I logged into HSBC net banking this morning, I couldn't see any card. Then logged into mobile app still no card. Finally decided to try a transaction on Amazon. The payment page redirected to HSBC with an error message. Then I called up HSBC and I was told the card has been permanently closed by bank on 29th Nov (same date when the credit balance was transferred to my SB Ac). He couldn't give me the reason as it is not available in the system and said I will receive a mail with the reason for the same.

I have mail from nodal officer on 29th stating they are transferring the amount to my SB Ac. and from complaints management on 30th stating my complaint is closed. No further mails apart from marketing mails which is still coming.

Can bank close my CC without my consent and knowledge and not even intimate me after closing it? What should be my course of action?

Don't know about the rules. But this is outrageous, imagine you are traveling and your card gets closed, now you will be stranded like Tom hanks in terminal

Boss,
You are an expert on complaining against various banks n taking the fights upto RBIO. And, most importantly, winning all the time. And, getting sizeable amounts as compensations.

How can anyone else suggest to you in these matters ? You are an authority par-excellence n proved it repeatedly.
Correct. Who can teach the Brihuspati

Yes they can close it, its clearly mentioned in terms & conditions of every bank.

congrats brother. New year bonus incoming 💃💃💃
Maybe valentine's day bonus. As raising complaint with RBI needs 30 days period after intimating bank cc. Then it's course of action will be another month.

So I guess bug brother will have a hefty paycheck for valentine's bonus.

Jokes apart, you should fight this out bro. The leaches should learn. This time to for the kill.

It seems like another mistake to me. Just like the way they dispatched a replacement primary card when I requested for add-on card they must have closed the card after transferring the money by mistake. The executive must have thought it's a request for closure and hence transferring the balance to another account.

Very cheap move from bank.

From multiple posts on forums like this bank can cancel card but they will inform you regarding the cause of cancellation. And it seems they haven't in your case. Check your previous mails if they somewhere mentioned regarding this possible cancellation.
If not Mail them for cancellations reason and file complaint to rbi , after that pesa hi pesa hoga babu bhaiyya😆

I think its another way of PUNISHING the customer who raises voice(RBI complaint) over them by using their so called INTERNAL POLICY
I was thinking on this line, but wouldn't it be too bold a step on the bank's part? I have taken them to RBIO twice and both times they ended up paying a compensation. Would they take the risk? I am not sure of the rules, but I believe they can't close a CC unless there is some regulatory compliance issue or a request from the customer. Need to check on this before I draft my mail to HSBC PNO.

That might be highly possible. Are they willing to reinstate the card?
If they admit their mistake it would be easier. But doubt they will own up to it.

Are you serious? I am not sure about RBIO but insurance ombudsman orders are officially available in public domain. Nowhere is it mentioned that these are confidential information which cannot be shared in public domain. I have not violated any rules by sharing these info in public domain.

Even these international/ foreign banks are 🤡.

You know though my 2 cents as you asked my views:

Yes, they have that power but they can only exercise it in some reasonable ground where cardholder is found guilty of voilating T&Cs/ breached the contract but this circumstance shows only their malpractice and it does falls under unfair business practice according to CPA and clearly shows deficiency in HSBC's service, for closing the A/c for no valid reason and without being transparent to communicate reason and all.

Wait what they reply and then you must proceed legally, permanently closed account can not be reopened, in paper yes, but it can be reopened if bank wants to. I have myself opened it, have personal experience.

You should ask them to restore the account along with the compensation, for such wrongdoing/ mal-practice, caused to affect you mentally. Not only mentally, inconvenience, wastage of your time and effort for nothing; the event which could have been avoided.

You should draft your case like just because you asked them to credit compensation in SAs excercising your right conferred by RBI itself, bank's ego got severely hurt and they took this step which is unlawful and punishable. You can show it by showing timing of communication and closure of account. You should also mention that they are taking RBI lightly, even after BO's order they have gut to do something unlawful and the bank is quite aware that I can take legal action.

Hope, RBI BO's is competent & good enough (upto now seems good hope it continues further) to make them to restore the account again and penalised them with heavy compensation to be awarded to you so that they can't even dare to do with anybody.

If somehow RBI get convinced with their cooked up answer that it's can not be restored, don't know how technical it's, how back-end team/ concern department works, just award you compensation or in rare case if RBI don't, then I suggest you should definitely start with District Consumer Disputes Redressal, if required upto High Court/Supreme Court. You can even directly knock the door of Highcourt/ Supreme Court, but after filing correct petition. Will say further if required.

✌️
