Http 500 server error, challan not generated on successful payment of income tax

Two of my transactions to income tax payments went through money debited but it gave server error while generating Challan.
It shows in payment initiated, will they generate Challan later? Or refund my amount.
If they generate Challan later, what m I gonna do with that because I have submitted my return via adjusting my savings.

Pay again and generate challan. Better to use UPI and better gateway.
Then file taxes today. Incase the earlier payment gets successful and you get that challan then file revised return with two challans. You will get one refunded.
Incase the earlier transaction fails and gets refunded then toh you are safe

Almost 24 hours still the Challan shows with status payment initiated.

I don't understand why almost everyone need to file on last date only. Is there something special @Dashanan

Or it's just bcs since too many ITRs are filed on last date, these get processed without much security?
Ideally, the income tax department’s servers should be sized for 100% of taxpayers filing at the last minute. It’s like exam centers: even if all students show up on the last day, the system should hold.
But in reality, government IT infrastructure often runs on average load capacity planning, not peak 11:59 pm load.
But people like you having poorly framed mindset, rather than raising correct issues, keep blaming taxpayers for using their legal right to file on the last date. The problem isn’t that citizens ‘wait till the end,’ the problem is that after decades of digital filing, the IT department still hasn’t built infra that can handle peak demand. Instead of moralising and lecturing, why not question why a system that collects trillions in revenue can’t even guarantee smooth uptime for a predictable, once-a-year deadline rush?

I hope ur wish fulfilled next eternity🤞🏻

I did 4 payments in 2 accounts and got error in all. 2 challans were generated after 30min or so. Other 2 are still not generated after almost 24 hours. But all these were advance tax payments. Hopefully remaining 2 would also get generated as payment is done and bank also got all details of challan in such cases.

Now remaining 2 also got generated so basically if debited challan does get generated by 24 hours.

Mine was for Advance tax, so it’ll get counted in current year.
One option is what NikhiG has suggested or another option is to file revised ITR and update the tax paid that includes this challan also.
So you’ll get refund as ITR refund In a few weeks
So I checked the Challan correction request. Looks like you can only move backward in AY and not move forward. So the self assessment tax for AY 25-26 cannot be corrected to AY 26-27 and neither payment be made as advance tax. So I did some research via chat gpt, so in this case if the Challans are not used cpc knows that you deposited extra via 26 ais and they refund automatically so no revised return I this case.
For me it was two Challans, luckily I thought to test it with 100 and then 20, before making actual payment so for me I lost money on like test Challans only. If my return is processed with 120 refund it's okay, if it's processed without any refund, will still not bother to revise for such a small amount.

One thing to remember from now on if you want to test payment gateway or check if payments are going through always check via advance tax 😉
