Hotel Points I am confused !!! why so much hype about Marriott points when you can not book higher quality rooms

ujjwal2024

TF Ace
VIP Lounge
I am really knowing about these hotel memberships for the last 1 month or so...
Till now I have stayed in Marriott (3 times) Accor (5 Times) and Hyatt (1time) and other brands by totally cash..I did not have any other credit card except ICICI Amazon and HDFC Regalia first
Now what I have learnt and then I checked in Marriott website also
You can only book lowest category of room using points and that also seems to be not good points value..also you can not book any room with breakfast or dinner using points..
what is this
My question is:
1) What is the hype about the Amex and Marriott when You can not have good Luxury experiences using their points....They are basically treating you as a 3rd class citizen and dumping on you their garbage quality (as per their standard) room to us all valued amex or Marriott point holder
2) What I will do the points? will stay in their designated room for the standard peoples?
3) Who is his right mind will even buy these points by cash where he can use the same cash to have a better experience by booking directly by cash

I am feeling really bad about the attitude of Marriott towards the credit card and Marriott point holders

Please share your opinion

2 things

A- you get insane reward rate on few card with points conversation. It doesn't make sense to do cash on hotels . Unless u r generational rich

B- even though no breakfast etc chain hotels are always safe , and even though it's not luxurtiest amount luxury for 90% folks with first generation money it's quite an upgrade what they seen growing up

I stayed all the hotels as part of my family vacations and that time I did not have any knowledge about the points, rewards of credit card etc...
Hotel booking means booking by cash only ( no I paid by ICICI amazon card and got 1% back..so sad)
My point is why they do not allow all the rooms using point?
Also I checked
Whether you book for 1 people or 3 people it does not matter the point requirement will be the same

Only in few hotel
If you book for 2 there is small price difference to same room
Good chain doesn't have this price raise unless it' changes room configuration.

Why they don't ! It depends on location of the hotel. Many have reported booking extra luxury vacation via points .
Hotel policy can vary

Also for Hotel voucher they do this discrimination
For more @anirban.choudhury will answer 😀

Thanks for sharing your frank opinion about Marriott.
what do you feel about Accor?

That chapri youtuber promotes marriot & amex points like he gets orgasmic sensation & want everyone to feel the same 🤣
Many Youtubers are promoting such credit cards and hotel promotions. A genuine one will put a disclaimer that he or she will earn a referral bonus or some commission if you go through his/her referral link.
Generally it doesn't hurt the buyer

Thanks for sharing your frank opinion about Marriott.
what do you feel about Accor?
Accor have certain advantages
1) It allows to book any type of room and with breakfast, half board option entirely by points...some say, you have to pay the tax by cash..some say not...but it is certain that you have to pay some amount by cash (as they use either 1000 or 2000 point in batch) as the full bill can not be offet by the points in a nice mathematics...there will be always a reminder.
2) You get 20 status point by accor plus and again membership can be bought by points
3) you can advance to the gold status (basically 2000 status point short of platinum status)...but in accor status does not have much meaning as you can book all amenities by points
4) booking by points also gives you status night
5) points have a fixed value 2000 point = 40 euro hence, no headache
6) If you have AXIS cards, you can earn huge points (but sadly it is capped hence not much useful for really really frequent traveller) but for normal person that will be enough..altas have 30k cap...now M4B have 2L cap but if you are not one of few lucky person who are holding it as LTF, M4B does not make much sense (after the fees and 30L FD) for most of us.... I have discussed below in this area for big traveller Amex and Marriott is better..

But
1) As per my opinion, accor seems to be little costly in same standard room of Marriott
2) My experience tell me that the service is worse in accor than in Marriott
3) The bonus for cash payment is very less 2.3% in accor whereas in Marriott we get back 10% of any payment in hotel as Marriott point
4) The rooms, the food and overall environment is worse in accor than Marriott

and Here Marriott have one biggest advantages...earning rate of points are really high (in platinum travel you get 48K point in 4L means 12% point) and there is the referral earning opportunity...you can earn up to 2.5L points per year ( I am 100% sure lots of people are earning this insane amount of points)
Where in accor, there is no such opportunities...

What is my final understanding??

A) If my aim is to use credit card points only then Accor is the best choice as it allows to book virtually anything using points

B) If you are paying in both cash and points (means you are more frequent traveller), then Marriott will give better value...as that time with your own cash, when you will achieve Platinum elite status, then the magic will happen as now you can use your amex point to its best..how? you book lowest room by points and then take upgrade facility of your platinum status...your breakfast is free and Lounge is free (means free drinks)

So basically for points burning accor is best..and for overall value (but you need to spend a lot) Marriott is better...

Now What is plan...My plan is to enroll both accor and Marriott
1) Accor I will accumulate through Axis Atlas and Regalia Gold..Will buy accor plus through points
2) Marriott I will accumulate through Axis Atlas (after 30k points is over..through ITC route) and AMEX Cards

After 2-3 years, I will review (actually I will review and update constantly) and decide accordingly

PS: most of the information about status etc is gathered.....some are from my own experiences....

Good comparison,
If I were in your place I would not buy accor plus with points, it's better to buy via cash as points have more value than cash component and sometimes offers are also there. For a long time Vistara was giving 4000 cv points for getting according plus explorer.

I was reading somewhera and I have bookmarked it..through HDFC promotion, you can get accor explorer (highest one) by 7500 points...which is a good value of the points...
When I will use Accor, My aim will be to burn points as much as possible not spending cash.

ok...got it...it depends on your luck...the option is there but may be chances are very low

You can book higher-category rooms using Marriott Points, depending on the property. Additionally, you can always request a room upgrade. Hotels typically upgrade your room category if higher-category rooms are available—and no, you don’t have to be an influencer to get an upgrade. If you have a higher status in the hotel loyalty program, you may also enjoy perks like free breakfast, late check-out, early check-in, and more.

Another point to consider is that you’re earning free night stays against your credit card spends, which you’d be making anyway. So, why not use the card and get a free night? Don’t overthink the per-point value—it’s about fulfilling your requirements, which you’re getting for free through your reward points or paying significantly less than the normal rate. That’s all that matters.
