Approximately a year and a half ago, I encountered a similar situation with IDFC First Bank. I had opened an account with them solely for daily UPI transactions, even though their nearest branch was 300 kilometers from my home. One day, without any clear reason, they placed total freeze on my account, which held a balance of 10 lakh rupees. This action left me extremely anxious, as I had no idea how to proceed.
I immediately contacted my Relationship Manager (RM), who informed me that the bank had flagged some suspicious transactions on my account. He explained that the only way to lift the freeze was for me to visit the branch in person—a considerable inconvenience, given the distance. I reached out to customer support by phone, email, and even on Twitter, but everyone told me to visit my branch.
Having no other options, I eventually made it to the branch. Upon reaching, they requested my Aadhaar card, PAN card, photograph, printed transaction receipts, and other documents, which took over an hour to process. My RM assured me that the account would be unfrozen within 72 hours, so I returned home with the hope that the situation would be resolved.
However, 10 days later, I discovered on the IDFC First app that my account was still under freeze. Frustrated, I contacted both my Branch Manager (BM) and RM, only to be told that my documents were still under verification and the process would take additional time. Left with no other options, I continued to follow up by phone, calling 2–3 times daily for updates, but each time I received the same response: "It will take more time." This continued for two months.
After 72 days, my account was finally unfrozen. I immediately transferred the full balance and formally closed the account on the first day of the following month, as they would not allow me to close it immediately. Afterward, my RM questioned why I chose to close the account.
This pathetic experience ultimately led me to end my relationship with the bank.
After I closed my account, the Branch Manager reached out to me to know about the reason for my decision. I explained beautifully
