Hi Team,

My iob acc was not used for 2 years and it got deactivated by bank and hence I activated again.

Then they debited 295 for my debit card that too two time for last year and last but one year.

When asked with bank they replied since my account was inactive charges was not levied n hence it's levied now

Is this valid?

After implementing Core Banking, all banks apply those charges - automatically - without the involvement of the branch staff - based on the Bank's set of operating rules. There is no way the branch can stop or prevent it.

BUT, usually (depends on individual banks) the Branch Manager can REVERSE the charges - if he is convinced.

So, try to REQUEST him for such a reversal. He may or may not acceed to your request.

Banks levy these charges when the account was active BEFORE going dormant. It's highly likely that the account didn't have enough balance for those charges to be deducted from the AC before going dormant so the charges were marked lien. After you submitted KYC and activated the account (and possibly deposited some money) the system automatically recovered the marked lien.

If debit card is issued in an account, banks will levy AMC charges irrespective of whether you use it or not. It's the responsibility of the customer to hotlist/block the card if you are not using it.

My acc had balance more than the amc charge of card when it was dormant

There is no point in discussing without the ACTUAL info. Like Account number, the type of SB account n the relevant applicable charter of rates n other conditions. It is like beating around the bush.

Go to the branch, meet the BM and REQUEST HIM to REVERSE the applied fee.
