Is this upgrade better?

Hello,

I've received the below upgrade offer from Amex from MRCC to Plat. Travel. Is the offer better than the usual referrals? 2K points, FYF and the Explorer Kit via Amex Referrals Though the kit doesn't really matter to me as part of comparison.

I also had in my mind to complete the Amex Trifects, having MRCC already and getting the Plat. Travel atleast and Gold maybe sometime later. If the upgrade offer is better, can I re-apply for MRCC later on? If yes, how many days after the upgrade and receiving the card can I re-apply for MRCC as add-on.

Also, if referral is better, can MRCC become LTF in this case as companion card to Plat. Travel?

I don't recommend upgrading your card as it reduces the number of points you can earn every month.

If you upgrade, you will lose your most rewarding MRCC card and on top of that, you will have to pay for your Plat Travel card.

While if you get Plat Travel card as your secondary card using an invite link, you will get it for FREE for the first year!
No fees removes the risk of not being able to hit milestones or unnecessary spending trying to justify the fees.

And if you ever feel like MRCC is better, you will always have it right with you so you can continue using it.

Based on your spends, you can then decide to keep both the cards next year or close either of them risk-free! 🙂

I said a no to similar offer as I am happy with MRCC considering my current spending pattern. After 40 years work experience in 3 jobs, offers on Star Hotels n Travel no longer appeal to me.

In Amex, MRCC is number one, gold charge is number 2 and platinum travel is number 3
The other cards are not worth having
